Can someone confirm or deny for me that SWA has a single qualification status that allows pilots to fly every 737 series on property (-200/-300/-500/-700)? If not, how does their system work?

Thanks.

Yes, that is true. Only pilots in DAL/HOU have the -200 qual. -200's no longer are based in HOU and will be gone from DAL by the end of the year. Eveyone is qualed to fly -300/500/700's and one can expect to fly the different models throughout a trip and sometimes throughout a single day.

Thanks. Just to clarify, do the -200 guys in DAL/HOU also have -300/-500/-700 qualification or that a separate status?

If I understand, the DAL/HOU guys have -2/-3/-5/-7,
and everyone else has -3/-5/-7, correct?

If you are HOU based and your currency in the -200 lapses you are not legal to fly it. In this case they will pull in a reserve who is or find a pilot in the lounge who is and you'll either fly another trip to evetually pair up again with your original trip or deadhead in that plane if a swap at the next destination is expected.

This is not the case in DAL ... all are legal to fly it.

How different is the 73-2 from the rest? I ask because we fly the 72-100 and the 72-200 interchangeably, and they have a few systems differences for the front-seaters (autopilot) and a few more for the plumbers. Is it truly that diferent, or is it an FAA thing?

Everone was qualified in all the models until 3 years ago. The -200 numbers were shrinking and those not in Texas would go months without flying them. Our POI wanted currency in it.

The -200 does not have a FMC. It's autopilot will fly a coupled approach but only off the Captains nav. It is like the 727. The 727 has a better autopilot. Except for the CWS (Control Wheel Steering).

-200 has a different autopilot, different hydraulics, different flight controls, different electrical system, different (and smaller!) engines, it sits lower to the ground; other than that they're identical!

Jumping from the -700 to the -200 or vice versa is always interesting.

Cheers
