Southwest Airlines 'Dings' in New Service in Philly; Carrier Celebrates New Service With Three Days of Festivities

SATURDAY, MAY 8: SOUTHWEST LANDS IN PHILADELPHIA

4:30-5:30 p.m. The first three Southwest aircraft will arrive in Philadelphia.
* Media can tape the aircraft arrivals from the top of the Terminal E parking garage or from the Terminal E Skybridge.
* 100 Philadelphia-based Employees will gather on the tarmac cheering the plane's arrival.
* Water arches will christen the planes as they pull up to the gates.

SUNDAY, MAY 9: SOUTHWEST TAKES OFF WITH FIRST FULL DAY OF SERVICE

5:00 a.m. The Southwest Airlines ticket counter will open, and the first Customers will begin to arrive.
6:50 a.m. Southwest's first flight will take off from Philadelphia for Chicago (Flight #741).
10:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Southwest Employees will welcome Customers.
* Distributing Mother's Day flowers and Southwest gifts at the ticket counter.
* Playing games and distributing prizes in the gate area.

MONDAY, MAY 10: INAUGURAL CELEBRATION DAY & PRESS EVENT

5:00 a.m. The Southwest Airlines ticket counter will open, and the first Customers will begin to arrive.
9:30 a.m. A Mummers band will lead a parade across the airport's Terminal E Skybridge featuring:
* Herb Kelleher, Southwest's co-founder and Chairman of the Board.
* Philadelphia Mayor John F. Street.
* Charles Isdell, Director of Aviation, Philadelphia International Airport.
* Southwest's Spirit Mascot and Employees.
10:00 a.m.Herb Kelleher will declare Philadelphia free from high fares.
* Kelleher will sign a giant "Southwest Airlines' Declaration of
Independence" with an oversized quill pen.
* Kelleher will signify Philly's newfound freedom by tapping a giant Liberty Bell.
* The bell will "ding" with Southwest's message and song playing over the sound system.
* Confetti will spray over the crowd.
10:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Southwest Employees will celebrate with Customers by playing games, giving away prizes, and serving
snacks in the gate area.

I'm flying in on one of the 3 ferry flights saturday. Flying one of the first morning flights sunday. Thought flying out of a new city the first day would be fun, but I didn't expect all THIS!

The Coup de Gras for Airways. Sorry for those there, but maybe this is just the beginning of what's to come for the modern airline era.

Kinda like watching the lioness' of the Serengetti pick off the old and sick wildabeast. Sad to watch, but makes everyone else better off.
