The position of Mgr of Dispatch Training and Standards is posted on www.southwest.com now. (or at this link:)

https://www.swajobs.com/ci20/index....e=swaExtCI&POSTING_ID=43080067&SEQ=jobDetails

Don't know how long it will be posted, so don't wait around if you're interested.

(Should also be a posting for asst. dispatchers soon.)

It goes without saying that hearing about the assitant dispatch posting is very good news. Hopefully it will be up longer than last time, which was phantom like.

This seems like a job posting for internal applicants. On the description is says "extensive knowledge of the SWA dispatch system" or something to that extent.

There's another part of the listing where they talk about major airline or large airline experience. I applied, but I am applying to just about everything that would pay reasonably well

Considering this position is the one that manages and directs the training curriculum I wouldn't be suprised to see them want somebody on the inside with knowledge of WN needs.

Of the past three instructors (this position), none were internals. So, apply, if you're interested. Dispatchers here typically won't move back into a full-time training position due to our nice schedule and ample opportunities for overtime.

Reality is that having some teaching experience can be more valuable than being an internal in many cases.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. But where do they go from this position? Seems like it would be a sweet job unless you could get on the dx desk.

One transferred to Reg Compliance and Standards, and another couple moved into dispatch when there were openings. If you enjoy it, you could stay in this position indefinitely. In the past it has been one way to get your foot in the door. I don't see the Chief Disp of Training moving anywhere soon, so there's not much vertical movement in the training dept, per se. Of course, that could always change.

The down side is that if dispatch is your ultimate goal and you take this job, you'll have a pay cut when you move to the asst desk. On our current contract (in negotiations currently for a new one) it would take around 3 years on the dispatch scale to get back to starting pay for the instructor.

The internals that were hired have an April class date. The openings for externals that should be posted soon will be for a June class.
