If you have just the SWA min's, is it realistic to hope for a call? And if so, what is the average wait time to be called for an interview? Thanks.

I have been told by some of the guys that 1800 turbine pic is a good place to be to get a call. This may be just rumor mill stuff.

oh yea good luck to us all!!!!

I have approx 4000TT, 2000 PIC 121 (J41, D328Jet, and CRJ) and I was told (at AIR Inc last weekend) that I'd need another 700-800 hours and a 737 type to be remotely competitive. Oh well....

Seems like the few people I know that have gotten called have around 5000TT, and 2000TPIC. Give or take a couple hundred hours on each. These are civilian guys of course.

Just what I've seen from my experience (very limited).

They told our interview group the 737 type was pretty necessary. I don't think they have started interviewing candidates without it and more and more apply each day with the type.

Are you still with indy or have you been furloughed yet? I made the cut by a year but am still looking for options out

Had a chief pilot tell a bunch of us the other day that without the type you don't really have a chance in heck right now. I know there will be exceptions to the rule, but with all supply and demand equations, why would we bother interviewing 10,000 folks without a type, when we can't even get through the 2,000 or so with the type, all chasing 700 or so pilot slots this year? That is just good business. Good luck regardless.

i interviewed with 4000 TT, 2500 Turbine PIC, check airman, and a 737 type.

i think the secret is 1500-2000 turbine PIC, a type, and a "leadership" role to get a quick interview.

Don't get me wrong...I completely understand the reasoning. Only passing along my experience and unfortunately I'm in no financial position to pay for the type right now.

I just got the call last week. I have 4200 TT and 1700 turbine PIC. Also, I got the 737 type last september. I wasn't expecting a call this early. A couple of my buddies with the similar qualifications got the call also this month. SWA must have finally ran out of check airman to call. The last round of guys called seemed to be just regular line pilots with 1600-2200 PIC turbine.

Well I'm still waiting. I've got 121 and 135 time. Currently the chief pilot and director of ops for a 135 operator. I've been a company aircraft and indoc instructor. Got my 737 type Apr. 2003 and have 3200TT with 1400 jet pic. Any thoughts!!!

Bravo,
My thoughts are pretty worthless, but here they are: I'd say if you get your PIC up around 1700-1800 (just like other contributors say), you'll be more competitive. Of course that is not a magic number. Will competitive mins go up or down? Hard to tell. One theory is that eventually they will go down as the pool of applicants is depleted. But you have to remember that the pool is constantly changing.
The best course is to keep flying, stay positive, do things that increase your chances (network, possibly a prep service from a SWA-knowledgeable individual, etc.), and, er, keep flying. I know that HPA/SWA is doing a "get-together" in Meridian, MS this coming March. I don't know where you got your type, and it doesn't matter. All are welcome as far as I know. If you got it at HPA, give them a call to find out when they're planning on being in Meridian. I think they try to do those once/quarter throughout the US.
Best of luck!

>>I hear the second half is the first thing that goes through your mind when they DO call is "Oh Shat, know what". <<

Huh?

Thanks for the bits of wisom Walden. Based on other posts, I seem to have all of the boxes checked other than a few more hours of turbine pic.

1. 737 type ( Apr. 2003 )
2. Leadership roles: ( Chief Pilot, Dir. of Ops., company intructor )
3. 121 and 135 experience
4. 5 internal LOR's
5. 4 external LOR's
6. 4 year degree

YES, I DO HAVE THE 4 YEAR DEGREE BOX CHECKED
P.S. THANKS FOR THE REMINDER

I interviewed in December. I had the lowest pic time of any of the civilian guys. I had 5000hrs total and 1800 hrs turbine PIC with a 737 type. I also have a 4 year degree and all of the other boxes checked except for being a check airman.

I got the call in Jan, and now I am waiting for all of the background checks. Keep the faith and you will get the call. It is an awesome time doing the interview.

Got to go, getting ready to do a swan dive into the pool!.....Good luck to everyone.

somebody please respond and say, "Oh, I got the call and I had all the boxes checked except a four year degree."

I just need to feel good for a moment, have a moment of hope!??

thanks...

How bout those Part 135 TPIC? Dont believe Ive seen anyone on this board that has interviewed with only Part 135 time.

Johnny

I do know of someone who recently interviewed with 135 time only. I don't know his times, except that he has maybe 1000-1500 more than me in most catagories. Also, he had a 737 type.

For me:

Total- 6800
Turbine- 5400
TPIC- 2600 (2100 jet pic)
2 Types
NO 737 type
Check Airman
4-year degree

No call.....
