Why does SWA require you to buy your type rating?

You dont have to BUY your 737 type. Only required to have one. In my case being furloughed from flyi, the state of VA paid for my type at Higher Power, thru the WIA.
Being furloughed Higher Power offered a lower rate, 6900.00 The state of Virginia paid 6000.00 of that, plus all hotel costs for the 2 weeks I was in Dallas.
Best choice I ever made.

Why does SWA require you to buy your type rating?

They said at the open house in June that SWA saves 50% a year on its insurance by having everyone typed when they walk through the door. That's a TON of cash.
