I have a SWA interview in July and have a few questions for those of you who have gone through it.

1. I am traveling must ride on SWA down to Dallas, but must leave the night of the interview back home. To do so I need to take another carrier. SWA won't be "offended" in this case will they?

2. For those who left Dallas on the same day of the interview did you bring your suitcase to the SWA headquarters or was that impossible or not recommended?

I am in no "rush" and my flight will leave well past 8 pm, but I do need to leave that night. I just don't want to look foolish with my suitcase at the headquarters if no one else does that.

3. I am staying at the Radisson. That is the hotel with SWA upgrades, decision board and interview team members correct?

Finally for those of you waiting I have had my app in since jan, typed since may, 4000 hours, 3200 turbine, 2600 turbine PIC, and am a check airman. All turboprops. Good luck to everyone, every bone in my body tells me that SWA will be the place to hang my hat to create not only a career but find my vocation.

Thanks to all who can help.

Bring your suitcase. Security personal are there in the atrium where you will sign in, they will take your suitcase and lock it up. Most every person at my interview arrived with there luggage. Good luck to you!

Thanks for your reply. I am really looking forward to the interview and really am enjoying all my prep these weeks as I really feel like this is something I have built towards for years and now it is all paying off. Good luck to all and if anyone has answers or ideas on the other questions I am still curious...

Thanks!

Hopeful,

Taking another carrier out is a non-issue. They won't be tracking you to see what flight you're on and whether or not you showed up. Just make sure you're not listed as a must fly on the return leg unless you will use it. Good luck at the interview.

Stay at the Renaissance

I went in April, and stayed at the Renaissance. This is where they put up the new hires during training, so there are all kinds of folks to visit with in the bar, and you'll probably meet half of your interview group there as well. This might cost a few bucks more than the Radisson, but I thought it was worth it. They have a 7 AM shuttle to the training center that will work perfectly.

Everyone had their bags with them, and they have a storage room just for that, so no big deal. There is a SWA shuttle that will take you from the interview back over to the terminal when it is all over.

Good Luck!

Did you build time at a Regional or a 135 operation?

Good luck with the interview. Remember to relax, and let them get to know you.

I am sure you will do fine.

So I am confused... the gouge and old thread (ie. 2002) seemed to imply the RADISSON was the hotel to stay at if you wanted to meet SWA pilots the night before your interview. Is it now the Renaissance?

I am a Part 121 regional airline pilot BTW.

Thanks for the answers...

Stay at the Rennaissance, that is where the SW pilots stay. Call now and book a room, because they only allow so many rooms at the SW discounted rate. I ended up staying at the Holiday Inn beause there was no room at the Inn.

Well bummer. I called the Rennaisance and they don't have the SWA rate for my night anymore and the cost would be $135 vs. my SWA rate at the Radisson for $65. Hard to justify the cost difference for sitting in the hotel restaurant/bar.

How much was the Rennaisance rate for SWA had I gotten it? Perhaps I am better off with a quite night to relax in before the interview...

Renaissance vs. The Rest

Same happened to me, they ran out of rooms at the SWA price. I chose to spend the extra bux and be where the people are. You don't have to stay out partying at the bar, but you can drop in - meet some of the other people you will be interviewing with. Most importantly, you (WILL) meet a ton of SWA pilots in town for training. You might even know one or two.

Added to this, a portion of the people down in the bar are guys who interviewed that day and could not get out of town or just wanted another night in a great hotel to unwind prior to going home. Great info passed on and it is truly fresh gouge on things like LOI scerarios etc.

Think of it this way - If you get ANY new pertinent interview info, renew any old friendship that might help in some way-shape-form, or start new friendships with someone from SWA..... what is that worth if it helps you get this job?

In my opinion, the Renaissance is where this will happen, the other hotels is where it won't happen. If you stay there, there is a chance you will reap some of those benefits I mentioned - no guarantee but a good chance (It happened that way for me). If you don't stay there, in all likelihood you will still do great in your interview and get hired. So I am not saying that the Renaissance is the key to getting hired - YOU are. I just think it has some significant advantages when compared to other places to stay and I wanted to point them out.

But, it is only money and you have probably already spent a lot to this point to get the interview, so why quit now? This is the job you want for the rest of your professional flying career, might as well leave no stone unturned.

Best of luck no matter where you stay! It is a very cool experience.

I got the Renaissance, I just changed it. The higher price is worth it to say you did everything to get a feel for SWA and make sure they get a feel for you.

I ended up at the Holiday Inn Select, but I was meeting some friends at the Renaissance for dinner and drinks. The Holiday Inn was more than happy to drive me over and pick me up, and they gave me a really good rate. Also, when I got to the Renaissance they said they would give me SW rate if I wanted to change hotels, which at that point there was know need.

Just a couple of money saving thoughts, these days every little bit counts!

Be cautious!

When you go down to the bar, realize that you are most likely in earshot of the very folks who will interview you. I was in town for a PC last week and was talking to a guy that does interviews and he mentioned that every now and then interviewees say something they later regret while in the bar. I think it's great to go down and have a beer or two, shake a few hands, and meet some SWA folks, but please remember the possible audience.

This is a great place to be and you definitely want everybody to see you at your best.
