SWA Hiring Sthlowdown?

Whatsth Happenin'?! I'm lookin' at a half empty bottle of courvossier, wonderin' that if the great folksth at SWA are running two classesth in March, in light of the recent months of about a classth per week...if that meansth that there isth a hiring sthlowdown, or if itsth justht an aberration? (Leon broke out the thesthauruth for that one!)

By the way...how wasth that Ladiesth in Aviation conferenceth a couple weeksth ago? Sthoundth like that would have been right on for good ole' Leon Phelpsth..

This is just my opinion, but here's a related word from HQ: Since SWA is reskinning some of the -300 aircraft, their temporary loss in the system is made up with the delivery of new aircraft for a while. Since there isn't a net increase of aircraft in the system, we don't need a net increase in crews just yet. This situation should alleviate itself after about the first 6 months of this year.

My opinion - If this is the reason, I would look for the bulk of 2007 hiring to take place in the last half of 2007. Estimates are to hire approx. 600 in 2007.

Sounds like a lot of instructors in the training department have vacations coming up, so there is a shortage of trainers on hand, therefore reducing the number of classes that can run. I think they are all going down to South Padre for Spring Break (but that is just a guess

We are still expecting delivery of more than 30 aircraft this year (slated for 39 total for 2007), so I expect that the reduced class dates will be temporary.

Mike Van de Ven told me on Feb 15th that we were behind in hiring pilots from last year and we need to hire 800 this year to make up for it.

The gaps in the new hire classes are for upgrades.
