Hey SWA Pilots:

My goal has been to get hired with Southwest Airlines since the begining of my aviation career. I just turned 30 and currently, I am flying for Skywest on the RJ. I will be upgrading to capt at the end of 04, hopefully. (praying)

I have been lucky enough to be included in a SWA program to mentor me to the ultimate career goal, a SWA FO.

I recently turned down a possible position with ASA out of DFW to hold my seniority and upgrade to Capt. The downside to this is the contiued commuting. The upside, is a possible place on the SWA team in the next couple of years.

Can anyone tell me what the next 2 to 3 years at SWA looks like?

I have had this career goal in my sights since the very begining, not since the downturn of the aviation economy. I have truly wanted to be part of that company for years. I had the opportunity to fly Herb on our corporate jet a few years ago and have met some of the chief pilots years ago and always made an attempt to get as much direction from these people as possible. I sure would appreciate any direction that any of you SWA guys / gals could provide.

Feel free to PM me or respond here.

Thanks in advance for your input and time!

From Air Inc Conference?

A friend of mine says SWA put out the number 600 for hiring this year at the Dallas Air Inc conference. Did anyone else hear this? He's thinking the 400 was in addition to the pool. All I've heard is 393 or 400 total new hires for the year.

Double the pilots by 2012

All the indications is that SWA will continue to hire pilots yearly for some time. You are doing the right thing by staying on the left seat even at the expense of the sacrifice. Good luck with Southwest. If you are so certain about Southwest consider the type rating. Take care...
