Flame Bait or what, Batsky2000?

It is just an observation, but every time some one posts a level-headed, thoughtful answer to one of Batsky2000's questions, Batsky2000 responds with more flame bait.

But no one is taking the bait.

I flew a fly-by-wire plane in the USAF. The flight controls were all conected by wires...spun steel flight control cables that is.

I absolutely hated the Auto-throttles during my 737 type sims. The things were more trouble than they were worth in the terminal area.

I guess the old addage if it ain't broke (or if the stock holders ain't going broke) don't fix it.

Just cause something is modern and technologically advanced, it doesn't necessarily make it better!

Ty Webb hit the nail on the head. I fly to fly, not program some FMS/EFIS/Autopilot control panel.

Cheers

Not flame bait dude, but if they add things in an airplane to make your job much easier, then use it, autothrottles take a load off of your workload when you are flying, just like using the FMS, I am willing to bet that you and everyone else does not hate using the fms, especially, when you have to do a hold and it draws it in front of you and makes the correct entry? Well I look at autotrottles the same way, and airplanes today are made to be more automated, if you think that the B737 is automated, go fly a new G550, that plane is way more than you would want to fly, and the A320, a piece of crap it is, but it is like flying a computer game, I hate that thing, that is one airplane that you can't fly like a real airplane, not with all that artificial feel that they put into it. So, yes, I like some automation. but aircraft like A320, I hate because you can't fly that thing, when you have to tell a computer what you want and it decides whether or not it is a safe thing is an aircraft that I don't want to fly.

Well, hey, there, Skippy, when you become the DO at my carrier, I'll do it your way. Until then, save your air.

The company doesn't give you, the pilot, the option of using or not using the autothrottles? It's dictated by company policy where, when, and how they will/won't be used?

Moose,
it was said before but to reiterate, the auto throttles are disabled in SWA's planes (from what I understand as a guy who is about to start class Monday) So yes the company tells you when you can use them, never.

The reason for this was it cost less. No need to repair them if they break and apparently they jockey around more than a pilot would, using more fuel. Also, I'm not sure if the 200 has AT or not, if not then it would have been another way to keep the fleet more standard and when all the 200s are gone in 05 or so, maybe they will look more at reenabling them.

Like was said earlier in this thread, apparently the company is looking at whether or not to turn them back on.

Firstthird, soon to be ex-poolrat

Hey Batskey, when it comes time for daddy to take the training wheels off your be-400 come ride the two wheelers with the rest of the forum. Sometimes we even ride no handed. The chicks seem to dig it and it lightens my workload so I can kick your a$$ at the monkeybars. Just when the forum was returning to normal we have to deal with Donny from the "New Kid's on the Block". Take your brooding someplace else chacchi, we've got people trying to get jobs back and you are in way over your head.

Are you really Dennis Miller? The syntax and wit is chillingly similar.

Hey Pisano, nice change of avatars. Is that from the episode where Spock returns to Vulcan to participate in the Ponn Farr?

Affirmative. It was seven years since he last spawned and his hormones made him crazy. So he killed his captain (and got to move up a number.).

The itch?

Googles--Now *that* was funny as hell.

So are you itching to spawn or upgrade?

Dennis Miller's pretty much got 'em nailed doesn't he?

And, back on topic, this thread is pretty much a testament to the coolness of SWA crews.

Lot's of patience and good explanations to questions that I might have just blown off.

Sorry guys. I have changed my avatar again.

(Just think of it as want Spock had in mind during that episode Ta' Pring.)
