Southwest to Drop SkyWest Code-Share Flights Done for AirTran
By Mary Jane Credeur - May 18, 2011
Southwest Airlines Co. (LUV), which completed the purchase of AirTran Holdings Inc. this month, plans to end the smaller carrier’s flights to six Midwest cities operated under a code-sharing agreement with SkyWest Inc. (SKYW)

Future service to those cities, which were linked to AirTran’s Milwaukee hub, hasn’t been decided, Southwest Chief Executive Officer Gary Kelly said today in Dallas after the airline’s annual meeting. Southwest’s pilot contract doesn’t allow for that kind of code-share flying in the U.S., he said.

SWA doing what DAL won’t do. Hey DAL, watch, you may learn something.

Kudos to SWAPA and SWA for a job well done. If only ALPA could grow a set, they could do the same. Right Scope?

Would have been nice to see airtran alpa scope out Skywest in their last section 6. Then again why waste negotiating capital on something which the other group takes care of anyway. Right?

Thanks to the people at SWA that separate them selfs, and continue to provide great customer service. Something GK values. Thank you SWAPA!

Since you were an "elected ALPA volunteer" I would expect you to have a little more empathy regarding this issue. It appears that you can't be an ALPA airline without either owning or outsourcing your flying to an RJ. Scope was our pilots top polling priority. Over and over again. Yet, when the TA was rolled out .... Guess what ? 84 seat RJ's.

You know the drill. ALPA means RJ's. Ask PCL128 if you want the full ALPA sales job.

I congratulate SWAPA and SWA for understanding that you can run an amazing airline without outsourcing your flying. I do find interesting the suggestion that SWAPA would outsource it's flying via a codeshare to AirTran. Is the principled approach to scope for sale when it's convenient ?

Cheers,

D.
