I will be a new hire at Southwest sometime this summer. I'm looking for any Southwest commuters who are traveling out of Denver to their base. Which base have you experienced is the most convenient etc.; MDW, OAK, or PHX? Obviousily, I will be dealing with a seniority issue at first, but I am interested in the long term as well as which bases seem to have better lines or the potential to move in seniority faster. Any thoughts out there?

I have had the pleasure of many, many WN guys/Gals on my jumpseat from DEN to MDW many times. Between ATA and Frontier, getting to MDW or PHX should be no problem. We start DEN-PHX on 05/17. The A/C continues on to Hawaii where the codeshare people from WN in PHX will fill 'er up!

Good Luck!

I have commuted from Denver for a few years. I've done both PHX and MDW. PHX is a shorter flight, but seniority is worse there. I do MDW now and it is fairly easy. We have a commuter policy so as long as you give yourself 2 flights, then you are covered if for some reason you don't make it. Scheduling will do what they need to in order to get you back on your trip (but you won't get paid for what you miss). I have used the commuter policy one time; I checked in 30 minutes late but still made push. Never heard anything about it. PM if you'd like further info.

If you end up in OAK keep in mind that SFO is an alternate. BART (subway) runs between SFO and OAK. I don't know the exact fare but I'm pretty sure you can get between the airports for 4 or 5 bucks. There is also a van service with crew discount that runs between SJC and SFO.

If you really get stuck Airnet has two flights that leave Centennial airport (APA) going to PHX in the middle of the night. One departs at 3:00AM the other at 5:00AM. I believe there is also a flight from PHX-APA late at night. You can also get from APA-MDW departing at midnight or MDW-APA departing at 3:30AM. Just some other options to consider if you miss the last flights out. We carry alot of Southwest pilots. Hope this helps.

usc1 is correct, however, PHX should be losing service from us by June 1st as of right now, so this will not help you any. There are the APA-MDW flights, but you can also make it to DAL or HOU out of APA...DAL with 1 short stop in MKC, and then from there to HOU. Also the reverse works if you are trying to get home, HOU to DAL then direct to APA. If BUR is ever needed we currently have a couple flights each morning there, but that could change as well on June 1st to 1 flight. So, we do have options for you to ride our system if you need it...HOWEVER, the problem comes in if you wish to take us out and another carrier in. How you ask?.... well if you leave on us your car will be at APA, and if you come in on someone else you will be at DEN(or whatever the code is for the biggun'), and i do not know a cheap way between the two ports.
