Anyone know how important the 4 year degree is to Southwest?
I've talked with several guys lately that have been called for interviews, a couple even with out the type, that have been called with much less experience than me (total time, turbine PIC, etc...).

Is it the degree?

They do hire without a degree, 7% non-degreed from the last report I saw. It has nothing to do with flying an airplane or who you are asa person. SWA knows that. Why do most pilot being hired have degrees? Because most pilots applying have degrees.

I don't want to open a can of worms about degree vs. no degree but I think it does help to have one. With your ratings I would think you could finish a degree in aviation fairly quickly. Good luck!

Unless only 7% of the applicants did not have a college degree. Then 100% of the people applying without a degree were hired.

Secret Sq. you are the man, you have figured out. Do you have a degree? The degreed people seem to have trouble figuring this out. BTW what else would anyone expect me to post if a degree question is asked?

I do. Best 7 years of my life. Wouldn't trade it for the world. That was how I figured out the math!!

I would expect you to change the subject to the fact that a pilot shortage is looming.



Oh, and that $100K is a lot of money and this is still a great career.

Correct, with the growing pilot shortage, the degree becomes less important. Those pilots who built flight time during the last four years, instead of going to full time college will have head of the line privileges for most jobs
