Hearing rumors that SWA will buy Alaska. Alaska will be all 737's by the end of 08 and they have gates, routes, and 737 options that SWA wants.

I hear that SWA will buy the Delta Shuttle in addition to the Alaska aquisition if it becomes available. They are looking for 175-225 slots in New York. There is talk of having to buy -300's off the world market to fill the gaps until new -700's can be found.

I now know why the administrator won't allow us to post pictures.

Will they get rid of the big 73's or just strip them down to bare bones and disconnect the technology up front? What about all that heavy galley equipment that is used to cook,,.,., food?

And is SWA going to keep and offer an A plan like Alaska Airlines?

How will SWA deal with Alaskan's ETOPs authority? International route authority to Russia with its QNE meters ops? .15 RNP GPS approaches to gravel runways? SATCOM, HF radios, ACARS, -800 B737's? Professional straight laced culture? Business fare structure.

SWA culture is not compatible with Alaskan Airlines.

Nice try but SWA would ruin Alaskan and itself doing something along these lines.

If they want all but the Professional Straight Laced Culture they'll just buy ATA.

Oh, and we'll we have the D Plan, does that count?:bawling:

SWA is much more compatible with JBLU, AAI, FRNT, and Midwest than anyone else.

SWA is an asset buyer at this point. SWA can not merge and stay SWA.

Alaska is to complicated for anybody. We're better off alone...new managment would be great but that's a different story.

How about a Continental/Alaska merger then??
Etops authority: check
QNE meters ops to Russia: check
SATCOM: check
HF: Check
ACARS: check
.15 GPS approaches: check
-800 737's: check(getting more 900's too)
gravel ops: check minus(how about the shell runways out in the Microsenia operation?
Professional straight laced culture: check
Business fares: check

Okay we need some West coast presense and I'd rather see this than a United merger but I'll take whatever I get because I don't have a choice.

But the only reason to do a merger is to get more international route structure. Alaskan does not offer much. Why bother? West coast markets are low yield LCC leisure travel.

It's Alaska, not Alaskan, Airlines. Some who work for them are Alaskan, but the company is based in the U.S. so its really not even Alaskan Alaska Airlines.

Kinda like a Canada Goose. Or do you say Canadian Goose too?

merger partner

How about SW and Greyhound. That way, you can pick them up at trailer park and take them directly to the airplane?

Regional guys would be in trouble if that happens. Think JO might start a new pay scale for Bus drivers (greyhound, not Airbus)?

;)

And, if I paid attention in 1st grade, I belive Alaska is part of the U.S.

If you REALLY paid attention you would notice Alaska is not part of the CONUS. Alaska's HQ is somewhere other than Alaska. Hence not Alaskan. Get it?

You guys are so critical. I might break down if you don't stop.

How's that A plan working for all your newhires over there at Alaska?

Gup

The same as everybody elses A plan that hasn't been terminated...who knows how it's working or for how long. It's impossible to know if or when the carpet will be pulled out from under you. The intelligent pilot ignores the fact that they even have an A plan and proceed accordingly. If it pays someday, Great. Bonus money. If not, no big deal, you weren't expecting it to. I doubt I answered your question as I sense there was some kind of statement in it.

People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Oh yea, and just what does that mean? You mean our self funded retirement isn't a good deal? But what about our profit sharing that has at least 2 crappy investment options for us to choose from. Well ok maybe 3 crappy options.

How about coming up with something new. If your going to come out swinging at least do a thread search or something. Capt. Bud

the question is: when is Alaska Airlines going to get that picture of Colleen off of the tail?

Badump bump. Ching!

He'll be in the bar all night folks...

It means don't make fun of folks who have lost their retirement plans. Or taken cuts, or who get treated poorly by management. In other words, play nice.

Why, what did you think it meant?
