Southwest Airlines Aug load factor 72.7 pct vs 75.8 pct a year earlier
DALLAS (AFX) - Southwest Airlines Co reported a 72.7 pct load factor in August, down from 75.8 pct in the same period a year earlier.
The carrier said it flew 4.3 bln revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in August 2002, compared to 4.4 billion a year ago.
Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 3.5 pct to 6.0 bln from the August 2001 level of 5.8 bln, it said.
Southwest chief executive James Parker said: "Revenue trends have not improved as we continue to experience weak full fare customer demand. At present, bookings for September 2002 are also weak, as compared to historical levels."
Well they started putting the "break even" load factor with the weather pack and release which says "break even load factor 60-64%". Fuel average cost $0.84. Not a bad load factor when you factor in our ASM's increased over last year unlike many others.
