I have got a question for any Military to Southwest Guys out there.
When Southwest asks whether you are available to work in the next 12 months, do they mean the end of my Active Duty Service Commitment, or can I use the date when I am eligible to start Terminal Leave (60 Days Prior). Thanks for any responses.

I'm not at SW, but I believe a friend of mine started there while on terminal leave. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I put my terminal leave date as to when I was available and backed that out one year.

Good Luck!

6 months

I recommend you don't apply, however, when you are right at 12 months from being able to work for them. Apply when you are about 6 months from going on terminal leave.

I don't agree with the last post. Have an app on file when you are one year out. I know a guy that was hired one year out from separation! Good luck...

What Cookiemonster Said ! ! !

Apply ASAP in the window you can, and don't just apply at SWA. Although it may be your first choice . . . they might not pick you up. You gotta have a b/u to a b/u to a b/u. Ya think Kalitta was my first choice . . .

Although your qualifications are top-notch . . . most are, it is very challenging on the outside.

Is SWA the only airline that will look at you 6-12 months out or will others also give you an interview?

I applied exactly one year from my available date (start of terminal leave). I got a call for an interview about 1.5 months later. Interviewed in July and have been in the pool since very early Sept. I am penciled in for a late March class so I can double dip for a couple of months. It worked for me and it takes a ton of pressure off the job search if you get hired. Good luck.

Sorry to bring this post out from the dead, but I have a question. On the SWA application it asks have you ever had a traffic violation that you pleaded guilty to. I'm assuming that is like if you ever got a speeding ticket and paid the fine. But then it asks you to list them all, with date, city, etc.

I have had maybe 2 or 3 tickets, all but one over 10 years ago. I don't really remember the specifics of them. And my driving record that I can get from the state (Ohio) only goes back 3 years, which is clean.

Any ideas?
Thanks.

I think it is better to list them especially since they are from long ago. They most likely won't ask about them but if they do, tell them that you have matured and wised up since then.

Estimate the offense, date, city, and state to the best of your ability. My DL was suspended over 13 years ago for not paying a ticket on time. I paid the fine and got my license back. I put it down. I WAS asked about it by one of the three interviewers...it wasn't a big deal.
