I should be in class at WN soon and am a bit of a systems buff. I have started reviewing my 737 type-rating books, but wanted something with more on -300/-500/-700 and FMS systems then I have (-200 based). I ordered and received the excellent "PASS" cards, flows, and callouts for SWA but want to also find something with more on systems.

I know, I know... I don't need much more info than in the PASS to be well prepared for class, but I am a systems buff, and hopefully SWA will be the last job I ever have so I don't mind collecting a "737 library" for my personal bookshelf.

Any suggestions of good manuals for the 737's that SWA flies, and the FMS used? I really am looking for anything and everything, just to have. CD-ROMs etc.

Yes, I am funny like that.

Thanks!

737 Books

Gotta agree with Knelis here. Bill Bulfer's "737 cockpit companion" and FMC guide are the best I have seen. Neither of which are required though going through training down @ DAL.

With that said...I arranged a book order for my entire class of SWA newbies. All the guys seem to be very happy with them. The "Cockpit Companion" is far better (and smaller) than the two volume systems books that the Co. gives you. In fact, I carry it in my flight bag while the two volumes are home on the shelf. The "CC" has a very good circuit breaker index I have used "real world" several times already.

Unless you have some FMC background, The FMC Guide will be a little daunting at first, but after 6 months on the line, I find it a very nice little resource.

An often over looked study resource is the Quick Reference Handbook (QRH) Complete with diagrams, it should keep the biggest "system hound" happy.

PM w/ questions.

Good luck

737 Guide

This may be a stupid questions, but is the 737 for SW the best for SW pilots or is any of the other combo ones better?

Second `knelis'

I'll second `knelis'.............Bill Bulfer's 737SW guide has been my favored reference.

 Tweek

PS. The `FMC Users Guide' has been quite helpful also.

I too am happily swimming in the Canyon Blue pool. I've been going over my 737 systems but I am not familiar with the 'PASS' cards. Would someone mind giving me some insight on what they are, if they are worthwhile, and how to get them?

Thanks,
CX

Try This

A chief pilot recommended Gary Duplissey's cards to me. E-mail him at [email protected] or www.B737Cards.com. I found them very useful. Also, I think most of the check airmen use these cards--tells you something... Cheers!

Pass cards: http://www.pass737.com/pages/1/index.htm

I ordered the "FO Set" which includes several hundred cards, a nice set of color flow charts, and profiles. From my friends as SWA the PASS cards were a great secret to having a painless training and if you come knowing much of what is on them you will be able to really enjoy training and what you get out of it. As I am not in Dallas yet (Jan-Feb class is last I heard), don't take my word for it for sure! Do a search of flightinfo.com and you'll see PASS has been talked about a lot and for what it is worth I am glad I got them, it gives me something "SWA" specific to some extent to study before I arrive and my understanding is they include the recent checklist changes so hopefully it is mostly current.

Difference between "Pass737" and B737 Cards"

For an up and coming SWA pilot, which set is better for getting prepared and staying ready?

Why not Both?

Both Pass and Duplissey are similar. You can always get both sets--they're only about $35 or $40 bucks each. With both sets, you won't miss a thing--really! P.S. Both are totally professional; cards will arrive within a few days from either one. Cheers.

I have the PASS FO set and also the 737 SW Cockpit Companion and FMC Guide books and really feel I have more than enough to look at to prepare for class. To show what a real geek I am I even have this: http://www.precisionmanuals.com/ which is a Microsoft Flight Sim 2004 add-on that delivers a switch for switch mockup with total functionality of the SW -700 including SW-style glass avionics, TCAS, all electrical systems modeled etc. and even including the FMS with full US database including DP/STARs. Since I currently fly a SF340 with no FMS it has been really invaluable to practice route planning, etc. so I won't be too behind the RJ/military guys in class who have used this type of equipment before.
