Hey Steele,

this is the Majors board... not the I have 1201 hours and want to fly for a major airline someday board. You're not in play here. You don't even work for JB or WN..

The discussion was about JB going into DAL. I say bring it on. Let the public decide who has the better product. I think Southwest does and your not going to change my mind, ever.

How do you know I don't work for B6 or WN? If 8000 hours is all you have I've got half again as much time as you pal. You took the subject off topic with your "wait till WN come to JFK crap". My my some of you lash out when feeling threatened. Have a nice day!

We need to share the cake we're eating. I have a feeling it'll turn out that way, regardless.

However, did JB show even a whip of interest in LUV until this deal came forth?

Nope.

Its the perfect play for jetBlue..."the Wright Amendment wildcard". I expect AirTran will move into play also. I think either way, with JB or AT at DAL, Southwest wins. If the deal remains unchanged SWA wins.

I wonder how JB will feel when we start JFK service in early 2007. One word Pressure...

Is that an announcement or a wish? I can't imagine swa at jfk. Those 15 minute turns will do nothing to help the bottom line when it takes 1 hour plus to taxi to the runway (and that's at a normal taxi speed, not the usual swa "slightly less than vr" taxi speed).

Besides, since when does swa consider jb a competitor?

I'd guess you'd probably feel the same way as JB would serve ISP. JB has a better product than SWA, so I guess you should worry a little.

All blue has is a TV and long haul.

Plus, we have the best paint job in the aviation industry, yellow or blue hands down the best. We gots GAS baby lots of it...pricing power. We make money on our fares. :bawling: (at least until our hedges run out) but we pay for our airplanes (that was a joke, relax let me highlight that for effect)

We do.. I'm not running for political office here. I don't candy coat nothing. If you can't handle it, go bury your head under your pillow and cry yourself to sleep, again.

Who cares...this really doesn't hurt SWA anyway you look at it. JB will fly from DAL-JFK and AirTran will fly from DAL-ATL. Not routes that SWA is flying.

I do find it somewhat funny that only now is JB joining the fray...once they found out the local compromise wasn't to their liking. Where were they before?

Congressman Joe Barton once threatened to undercut any anti-Wright legislation ( and as comittee chairman, surely could have). He is now reluctantly in favor of the local compromise....how will he treat this new entry to this discussion from an outsider? Probably the same, is my best guess.

Holy crap... can we please get away from the "Mine is bigger than yours" stuff and get back on topic.

I truly beleive B6 showed no interest in DAL before the compromise because they didn't want to show their cards. When something popped up that was going to bar them from servicing DAL, they had no choice but to step up to the plate and expose a bit of future strategy.

"Who cares...this really doesn't hurt SWA anyway you look at it. JB will fly from DAL-JFK and AirTran will fly from DAL-ATL. Not routes that SWA is flying."

So then why are you folks at SW now all upset that we wish to join in all the fun? Remember, there's more then enough for all.
I think SW can be a tad bit sensitive, what do you think?

All this over a few gates. I'm sure the original quote was taken out of context. You guys are way to trigger happy.

Frankly, I am glad that JB and NWA have come to the party. I'd rather see the WA go away completely than this 'deal' that was worked out. Seems to me that AAL gets more out of the deal than SWA does. (AAL gets a good excuse to leave and they never really wanted to come, whereas SWA will lose some of our potential gates and forever limit the size of the airport, plus be a party to the same type of anti-competitive deal that we've been moaning about lo, all these many years, yuck)

I'm pretty sure that other SWA guys have expressed the same sentiment, although admittedly, some have not. We're not the Borg (although we've been called that), there is still plenty of room for disagreements amongst 5000+ pilots and 32,000+ employees.

About the competing with Jetblue and Airtran, we will be doing it eventually so we might as well start sooner rather than later. Although, like Tejas-jet pointed out, until we start flying to JFK or ATL, it is unlike we'll have very many routes that directly overlap.

Oh, and Jetblue is welcome to come to Islip, although, not sure how many people want to fly JFK-ISP (a little joke there).

I hope you guys can still make money on your industry leading LOWEST percentage load factors...[/UNQUOTE] BY Spectre

Actually, I've always liked our 'industry leading' low LFs. I suspect that the only reason they are as high as they are now is us not being able to get any more 737-700s from Boeing or on the used market above our confirmed orders.

Traditionally we fly with lower load factors for a number of reasons.
1 - passengers like to have the middle seats open
2 - if a plane breaks, it enables us to 'flex' and get those people to their destination in the next 2-3 flights (assuming 60-65%) rather than the 10 flights it would take as an average of 90% LFs.
3 - gives us more upside during the high demand months (now) whereas we can still post a profit during the weak months (winter) at a lower load factor without substantially changing our route structure every few months chasing seasonal traffic.

So, short version, I think most SWA people would like to see our LFs down towards the mid 70s (assuming our breakeven LF is mid 60s) rather than mid or high 80s. Higher is nice for short term profits but starts to wreak havoc on our customer experience and we don't want that. You see, we don't have no fancy TVs in the back, and without the opiate of the masses to sedate our customers, we need good old fashioned customer service. I'm not saying that TV airlines don't have that also but I suspect a no TV with center seats open might be better than an assigned seat full plane with TV for a bunch of people.

Well...if we could get the sweetheart deal that your company got at ISP, then you just might see that!!! (Insert laugh tracks here)

Geez...twenty-five years of FREE RENT!?!?!?!!?

Jet Blue, Continental tops in airline satisfaction survey
Thursday June 29, 10:52 am ET

Jet Blue, known for its swank seats and individual passenger televisions, ranks highest among low-cost carriers in customer satisfaction, says a survey being released Thursday. JetBlue received stellar numbers across the board, topping the ratings in all seven customer satisfaction categories.

JetBlue scored 81 points above the average for low-cost carriers, with an overall satisfaction index score of 820 of a possible 1,000 points - 81 points above the average among airlines that offer typically low fares. Southwest Airlines was a distant second, and Frontier Airlines was ranked at the bottom

Southwest Airlines spokesman Ed Stewart said the objections to the Love Field agreement were "bewildering."
"Any airline that wants to serve the Metroplex can go to D/FW today and fly anywhere they want," he said. "No one is being locked out of the market."

That's somewhat different than the orginal quote posted here. No big surprise.

Geez...what arrogance! Mr. Stewart, are you listening to yourself?

If no one is being locked out of the market, then why does SWA want a repeal of the Wright Amendment?

I'm assuming that JB wants to serve Dallas Love for the same reason that SWA does. Shorter taxi, less congestion, closer to downtown, cheaper. JetBlue has probably been interested in DAL for quite some time and has supported an outright repeal of the Wright amendment. This new compromise/agreement would effectively lock any new carrier from serving DAL, which is why JB is being so vocal about it now. By the way, when did JB announce they wanted to serve the DFW "METROPLEX"? They've publicly said that they want to serve DAL, not DFW.

What if SWA wanted, really wanted to serve EWR, LGA or JFK and the Port Authority told them that they could fly to Newburgh (Stewart) only if they wanted to serve the New York "metroplex"? They'd cry foul too!

This compromise is only a good deal for the airlines involved and no other company.

What time frame are you getting load factor info from? 2001? FYI, our load factor this Friday is 91% baby !! 3000 plus flights! How many flights A DAY do you have?

Reading this, "who's got a bigger thang" thread between SWA and B6. The thread reminds me of a movie called, "The Pirates of Silicon Valley". The movie told the story of how Apple, Microsoft and other early computer companies got their start.

The movie ends with Steve Jobs telling Bill Gates that Macintosh was clearly the better system. Bill Gates shakes his head and laughs, "It doesn't matter".

Boys and girls it's all about market share, marketing and price, not about frills or novelties.

My God Gup, you mean you and I are the only ones who read into the sarcasm in this. I laughed at it. Some of you guys need to read a good book every once in awhile, and lay off the MTV "Pimp my ride" for the expansion of your senses.

Well for the Southwest pilots who don't want to go there, I'll do it for you................

Southwest 12 yr CA pay $190/hr
Frontier 12 yr CA $157/hr
jetBlue 12 yr CA pay $139/hr

You gentlemen need to quit quarrelling about who has what in this industry, and start using that sentiment when it comes to your remuneration. We’ve got guys here worrying about how the latest porn tape would look so much better in Betamax.

Well....in this monring's Dallas Morning News, Dallas Mayor Laura Miller stated that she would welcome JB here in the area and that they can start service out of here tomorrow if they want to....at DFW or at DAL.

So there !!! Now, why all the fuss?
