The navy school is only 5 miles from our town. If you guys only knew how close to town you were but they made sure you thought you were in the middle of nowhere.

Used to come off of a fire patrol and chase the guys around for a little. Allways was fun trying to get them out of their hole and make them run for the "safe house" on the ridgeline.

The instructors would call and yell all the time. Good times.

Granted, I went through USAF survival during May when the wx was beautiful, but we had a blast. The first week was fun and short; we had a blast every night in Spokane, where the folks are real friendly; the 5 days (or whatever it was) in the field were a hoot. The POW camp, while intense at times, was kinda cool (in retrospect). C'mon:... did you remember that you weren't acutally a POW? If so, then you looked at the ones in your class that DID, and realized how interesting this whole thing was. And, yes, I'd go back (but not in the winter!).

I'v got a feeling Mike Durant is probably pretty glad the ARMY SERE was soo good. It was three weeks of pure h e l l which prepares you pretty well. I did it in 93 and I can still remember some of the games the SF guys played on us in POW camp. He said that he may not have made it through his ordeal without the training.

If you don't know who Mike Durant is shame on you.

hehe no survival graduate does NOT know who Durant is...I agree it was really interesting. I guess it is one of those things in your life that sucked while you were in it, but you look back fondly on. I am definetly a changed man tho...

Good on ya Vandal. Although I never went to survival school...something about a failed depth perception test during the flight physical when I tried to xtrain to boomer...I know quite a few who did. They all said it changed their life too.

*What sucks now, I recently had a full eye exam (getting a lil older) and my depth perception was perfect...grrr.*

Hey JimNTexas! Whoda thunk three Weasels around here. :D (prolly more lurking) Should get a message board up for the Weasel Net. ;)
Cheers!

I never thought rabits could be that loud.

Don't you mean Scott O'Grady? I still doubt that he learned to run towards the rescue helo with his gun drawn at survival school.

Scott O'grady slept under stars for a few nights and ate some bugs. Mike Durant was the only guy to survive the Somalia shoot down and firefight. He then spent several days being tortured. I am sure someone here is from the 160th and knew him personally. I was in the unit but a different batallion and did not have the pleasure of knowing him personally but I know it takes a real man to go through what he did and still get back into a helo and fly again.
