We're not going, but even without any weather issues it'll be a cluster fk. Just ona distance, DET is the closest to downtown. But they have woefully inadequate space for parking so expect that airport to fill up really quick. Ditto for PTK on the same issues.

DTW and Willow Run are going to have more parking available, but a pretty good hikes from down town.

Can't imagine what it's gonna be like if it's snowing all day. Yikes!

It isn't much more than 30 minutes or so to downtown from yip or dtw (especially dtw). Granted, game-day traffic will probably add a little time.

If I was picking....

My first choice would be Detroit Metro (about 30 minutes from Ford Field), Detroit Willow Run and Oakland Pontiac next (about 45 minutes away) and Detroit City last. If you fly into Windsor, you will have to deal with Customs, but no TFR restrictions.....

I would avoid KDET like the plague that it is. The facilities and service are almost as bad as the neighborhoods that surround it.:puke:

That's no kidding. That's the one airport I will not leave at night to go to dinner. Pretty rough neck of the woods. I'd probably stick with DTW..

Already here, I'd go to airports in this order: DTW, PTK, YIP, and DET.

Space at PTK is limited depending on which FBO you park at. Pentastar and ADI have lots of room. Michigan Aviation has a medium size ramp, and PAC and Aviation Station have NO room. PAC does have a nice pilot lounge though. Oakland Air usually opens up a second ramp (as they did during the Ryder Cup) so they have significantly more space than would normally be available if you went down P taxiway. PTK seems to have the best ground support in the area.

DTW has plenty of space, and you'll likely get in and out faster. YIP isn't space limited (if they move the old USA-Jet planes out of the way), but can be tricky to navigate the roads.

I've been to DET who knows how many times, and they are supposed to be operating out of the old Airline Terminal for the Superbowl. I was there 2 weeks ago and they were still not switched over. They'll have a lot more ramp space if they open up at the Terminal, and you can't beat proximity to Ford Field. If they get the terminal open, I might go there.

On another note, Kwame is planning a 3 day "party"(round 'em up and lock 'em in) for the homeless folks in the city, so expect less pan-handling for the big weekend.

If you're around for a few days, check out the Winter Blast and send me a PM, I'll send you to some good eats.

Toledo is close,(about an hour, no traffic) your going to be stuck in game traffic from YIP or DTW

We have two jets going to PTK. Pentastar(Million Aire) has great services, and a descent size ramp.

Discount parking at Murray and the Hood at DET, take the hub caps off of your airplane. Only kidding. I have heard their may be hangar space availalbe at YIP

Signature at DET will be operating out of the old airline terminal. AND they are going to stay over there until the current digs are finished being renovated!! We go there all the time. Neighborhood sucks (but they are putting some dollars into the airport entrance and exit areas...trying to dress it up for everyone. Something tells me they will be parking people on the airline terminal ramp as well as their current ramp. And probably down alongside the hangars and probably on rwy 25/7.

Man I hope I don't have to go! (keeping fingers crossed!)

Are you? ;)

Maybe now you can get some respect.

Don't know that I am going, but needles to say every piece of equipment that we can get in the air will be there at one time or another. Personally, I want to take the Otter there!

Fortunately I'm not going this year.

I do, however, have 4 King-N/S hotel rooms at the Double Tree @ DTW for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night.

Who wants them? and how much are you willing to pay?

I see on Ebay that 1 star hotel rooms are going for $1500 for a four night minimum.

But what about the boat(s)? The lake is beautiful this time of year.......

Windsor (CYQG) to Ford field is about a 20 to 25 minute drive.
Safe, Secure, and a great city to stay in.

Casino
Cuban cigars
Fully nude strip clubs
15% on the US dollar
Legal escort services

What more could you ask for on a lay over.

Hangin' in DTW. Check this miserable trip out.....launching off of the Left Coast at 5am. Getting 11 hours of rest at a B&B. Launching for the Left coast at 2AM. Gotta love cheap charter clients. I hope they're not too crowded in the back with every seat filled (including a belted potty). Gonna require a fuel stop on the way home too.

We're using YIP.

I thought I was through with that place when I stopped flying freight...

I had to fly in there (KDET) all the time at my last job. Thought I would take the crew car one afternoon to get Subway for lunch. I'm lucky I made it back. What a piece of crap area. I'm surprissed I was'nt on the local news that night laying in a pool of blood. Not to mention, Signature is the only FBO on the field so they can rape you with the landing and ramp fee's.

My advice...stay away from KDET like the upcoming bird flu unless you have to land in an emergency. But even then I might take my chances ditching in the Detroit river.
