I was just wondering about this new strategy of the airlines to only delay flights and not cancel them during bad weather. What is the logic behind this and how does it help the airlines? More flights, just in case the weather breaks? I am just trying understand why they are doing this. I do not know weither or not this will work out for the airlines or hurt them. Any input?

Airline pilots get paid for cancelled flights. At least everyone but Great Lakes does. (haha)

It's the all important DOT stat of COMPLETION FACTOR.

Low completion factor is worse than % of late arrivals.
