Min SWA pay on an originating 4 day..26 trips
Good paying 4 day..32+ trips
Avg RON around 16 hrs..could be 11 could be 19..but I haven't seen an overnight over 20 hours since I got here, except for a charter.

Just had a 2 day from my original line that was scheduled 5 legs from PHX-BDL with a 2 leg deadhead home the next day..
Called Sked and got released from the deadhead and made it home the same day....
Paid 16.11 trips for a TURN
Thats a 1200.00 day for a guy who has ben here 18 months..

Or there was the 3 day VJA that flew 14 hours and paid 42 trips last month...thats a little over 3K..or $215+ an hour..again 18 months on property.

Or the entire month that paid 153 TFP flying 69 hours..breaking out the "handy dandy notebook" tells me thats a little more than $166.00 per flight hour as an FO who has been here..say it again..18 MONTHS

Or the last 12 months that averaged out to 137.00 per flight hour, could have been alot better but the first 4 months were still at 1st year pay.

My point is if you guys are able to obtain just a few of the "effeciencies" we have now I think you will be
VERY HAPPY

[kidding]Thanks for rubbing it in.[/kidding]

Not all of our trips are like that, in fact most are in excess of what triggers the duty aveaging. You have to understand is that Hal is relatively junior in status and gets all the dross that folks with some bidding power can avoid - like me (sorry Hal, had to rub it in. You get the big paycheck, though). What's even more surreal here at ATA is that management wants us to eliminate the protections that force them to schedule us efficiently. They want us to sh!t can duty averaging, lower the guarantee, almost totally eliminate pay protection, reduce JA pay, and eliminate the extra pay we get for flying below min days off. All of these things force the company to schedule efficiently, yet encourage our pilots to come forward during periods of crisis and when great opportunities for extra flying become available. Under their proposal if I had a day of flying cancelled sometime in a month due to being stuck in a NY snowstorm, I would get, at most, a couple hours extra pay for doing a random two day JA trip. You think anyone is going to answer the phone when the caller ID sez 'private'? Negative. Cancel last minute charter. Thank you, come again.

The problem is that if we don't play ball with the company now during the contractually mandated 5 day pre-1113-filing period, the BK judge is likely to impose the company's wet dream. Unfortunately, we can't wait for the 'new and improved ATA management' to show up, since we'll be stuck, indefinitely, with the judge's imposed POS. As a result, we're probably gonna have to cough up some short-term relief and wait to talk to 'the man' whenever it is that he shows up. In other words, we've got to punt and wait awhile to make the big play.

Efficiency

Yes, ATAs efficiency is not the best, but the gap between block hours and paid hours are huge! I have been here for 19 months. Rarely do I work more than 12-13 days a month. Rarely do I fly more than 50 hours a month, and I rarely get paid less than 90 hours a month. ie. Last month I flew 46 hours and got paid 98.
There are some horrible trips out there. I just did a 20 hour 4day with two 24 hour layovers in IND. But you pick these trips up while on reserve and that 20hours gets paid above the 75 hr min. So far this month, 95 credit, 25 hour block.
I am looking forward to our plans with SWA, but I dont believe there are many other airlines out there where you can work as little for so much credit.
Most guys I know here average about 500 hours a year, and get paid for nearly double.

And there lies the problem. In this day and age, when companies must operate lean, you can't make money with productivity like that. Just because people in America can sit home and collect the government check, can we expect to have a balanced budget in this country or pay less taxes. I do an honest days work at SWA and in return they give me an honest days pay. Southwest does not believe in handouts, nor would any of our pilots expect any less from a productive pilot group. It benefits us more in job security.

Canyonblue, I don't think that TZFO is bragging, I think he is merely illustrating his personal experience with our ineffecient scheduling.

To illustrate my personal experience, it took me 3 1/2 years with ATA to get 1000 hours with the company. Of course, I was on the L-10 for a year and a half, and right after I went from the L-10 to the 727 9-11 happened.

But now we are pretty overstaffed, at least for 737 captains in MDW, I have been signed off since the end of July yet I have only flown the thing about 115 hours since then. But the good news is I am able to spend all sorts of time at home with the new baby!

Efficiency

Pickle is correct. I am not bragging, but this is the way it is around here. If I were a manager, this efficiency would probably make me ill. When I get furloughed, I will be more than happy to come to SWA and work hard for a stable and profitable career. The next few months will be verrrry interesting.
Happy Holidays.

I like you ATA folks! You guys have a great attitude, even with all this crap going on around you.
