Everybody walked or floated away from that landing...
Perfect weather conditions during the day no wind. Of course, that Captain is a hero.
Who care about the rest of the crew?

Come on people, you know the captain always going to get all the credits.
I do not see the other crewmember on a TV commercial?
Nobody talks about them, nobody care. It sucks but that is the reality.
Enough of this $hiet already... let us move to something else.

Let talk about the other Hero in Buffalo NY. Yeah! the Colgan Idiot,or the Northwest crew that overshot the airport. how about those heroes?

Remember something guys.

You are always going to be remembering on the last thing you did.
Whether was a heroic maneuver or a stupid one.

You have 30 to 45 minutes to get all the information to cover your a$$.

The FAA NTSB the Media and other pilot have an eternity criticized and punish you.

...lucky in my book.

But I guess we don't chat about the new clothes the emperor has just put on.

"I got it!"

So I guess Al Haynes was just "unlucky" considering people were killed? You sir, are a moron. I see Im not the only to see that. But hey, jealousy will do that to people.

While we wait for the Viagra to kick in so you can get back to slurping my 'little hero', I wanted to give a shout out to somebody who helped me get here; who gave me my mad skillz to do what I do best...

So props need to go out to...you know who you are...MY TREMENDOUS EXPERIENCE!"

Now I don't care who you are, that's funny, that right there!

If a pilot doesn't have his head in the cockpit or sightseeing, can he see and avoid geese by looking where he's going? I believe that geese, especially a flock, can be seen and avoided just like slow moving GA airplanes.

The first thing I thought of as I processed those events while watching an Airbus floating in the river was the experience level in that cockpit. That was the first thing I said to my wife. The Sully haters just show their inability to see the big picture. Who cares what f**kin checklists were done? Those dudes saved a lot of lives that day. God bless them!

I agree with the results, no one was killed. He did a good job once he hit the birds; but the questions is: If he had been paying more attention to looking out the window for traffic and birds, especially geese which are well known to be in that area, could the bird strikes have been avoided? We have all seen lots of flocks of geese and they are realatively easy to not only see, but to also avoid if a pilot is paying attention. The fact is that pilots have their heads in the cockpit way too much nowadays. That was the real cause of this accident.

Yes, Sully was a hero once the geese were hit, but how about before? Was this accident avoidable? I say yes, it was avoidable.

Other comments are welcome.

Toga doesn't do anything if the engines aren't able to develop more thrust. I don't understand the anger some people show here against Sully. Now you are making it a union matter. I know the west and east pilots are battling but don't bring it up on this thread. I believe Sully was PSA before USAIR aquired them.

You might be a bit confused, SULLY, made it a union matter. When he used his newfound fame to espouse an opinion that was aimed at benefiting his fellow east pilots at west pilots expense. I did not have anything to do with him doing this.

It's kinda like when these moviestars make a few movies and then decide that everyone should hear their opinion about other things. Sure the movie might have been good but, keep the opinions to yourself.

You also have to give a tip of the hat to the controllers.

True

But if the controller screwed up, he would have gone home that day. In all reality, he didn't have anything to screw up, not like he vectored the plane into a mountain, let a lone the geese. The controller's situation was a relatively "canned" one as far as how to handle an aircraft in distress. I'm NOT downplaying the job they did, nor saying they aren't important, etc.

If Sullenberger/Skiles screwed up, they probably wouldn't have been able to go home. Their emergency wasn't a "canned" scenario so to speak.

I think his performance was average. Not perfect and none of you would have been perfect either in the same situation.

I think to be critical of him is a diservice to us and to say he did a great job is a diservice to us also. I think he did what most of us would have done. An exceptional situation, but cut and dry decision making. From my experience he did what was best, and what was obvious.
