Study Info for Poolies

Poolies are always looking for what they can do to get ready for DAL. I know this has been posted in the past but I wanted to give a couple of links that go most directly to some study materials for new hires.

Each SWA base has a website & it is addressed as follows:

DAL Pilot Base
BWI Pilot Base

All the other bases have the same website address, just substitute the 3 letter identifier & click.

If you go to the following website, you can download a pdf file that has some ops limits & critical action items for review. It isn't too long but it is something to sink you teeth in.

SWA Memory Items

Hope this gives some of you something to do than merely peruse the web. For those who have been waiting patiently for the last 2 years, please tell your spouse & self the following; "think of where you were a year ago & now think of where you will be a year from now" . Expect the following scenario to occur, for many, hundreds of folks below you on the seniority list, new airplanes coming on the property 1 every 12 days for the next 3 years; in two years all of you will have nearly 600 folks below you on the seniority list, at least 4-6 new cities, a new pilot base, all gates at HOU/MDW/ISP & probably others that I can't think of...

Thanks for your patience & hanging in there. For those who are in the pool but have been hired by JB, Fedex, AirTran or others, you will have a difficult decision to make. For some it won't be, for others much more difficult possibly. Others would kill to be in that situation but give it plenty of thought & good luck. Cheers & God Bless,

Thanks for your kind words. I have been blessed to run into folks on the line who have read my ramblings & don't slug me for having deceived them. The wait for the poolies & many others who are looking for work can't be imagined by folks like myself (my first & last rodeo thank goodness) so my breadth of experience across the industry is admittedly low but I don't advertise myself as an expert on that subject, just marginally smart on SWA. If my posts provide some help then I'm gratified. I've tried to get to the new hire classes to at least introduce myself but sometimes it doesn't work out but I'll hope to see all of you in DAL sometime early '04. Thanks again.

wow, I don't usually post in this area, but that's awful nice of you, chase

I guess I am amazed there are people like yourself, altruistic to a seemingly abnormal degree (and there's nothing wrong with that)... just unexpected

with companies breaking promises and leaving people high and dry everywhere you look, it's nice to see that your particular sector of corporate America is seemingly genuine in regards to employee treatment

I am assuming you work for SW now, and while I don't have aspirations to work at the airline level (maybe some CFIing here and there), it's great to see that others will find people like you when they get to the proverbial top

We all have warts, including myself no doubt. There are many others on here who do the same thing for SWA & other carriers, Albie15, coopdog, mikeb & others so I'm happy to be in their company. There are many in this industry (as there are in any industry) whom have chosen to step on folks on the way up & down, that's too bad. I have found a lot of enjoyment out of flying airplanes for nearly 25 years (20 w/AF) but what has been the most fun is meeting some of the nicest folks and developing great friendships by sharing something I really enjoy doing, flying. Keep passing on the spirit when you do your CFIing. I wish I had that type of ticket, I miss not teaching folks the basics of flying & why it is so much fun. No offense but I'd rather do that than post on here but maybe in retirement Take care
