I don't think you goobered anything up...but what's to keep the company from just hiring all the new-hires into widebody right seats. Then they save a year's worth of 2nd year pay(which is 2.5 times first year pay) for those who would have upgraded.
Perhaps that is too confusing...if they start hiring into the right seat of the widebodies now and stop the upgrades then everyone who was supposed to be upgrading would be kept on S/O pay and the new-hires would be getting first year pay(the same for all seats); seems like a no-brainer/big money saver for the company. For that matter, they should hire into the left seat and that would really save them some cash.
Did anyone who spoke to the company/ALPA get an explaination on this, it seems that the contract spells out what constitutes 'delaying one's training' and this is the spot on example of that...keeping in mind that this is all purely the conjecture of those of us with nothing better to do with our time than puruse Flightinfo...
