How does one find out who is the charter or corporate jet company that each proffesional sports team uses? The reason I'd like to know is that I am a hard core LA Dodger fan. When I say hard core, I mean I bleed Dodger blue. Although my goal is to fly for a regional airline and the US Air Force Reserves, if I could land a job flying for the Dodgers I would take that job in a heart beat and never leave. I would probably fly for free but I assume the pay probably would be decent. I know I sound crazy, but I truly love the team that much. How difficult is it to land such a job, and how does one apply? Thanks.

Baseball and basketball teams are the worst. Hockey and football teams are the best as far as passengers go. Just my experience flying chartertrips.

Don't bother. I guarantee you that you will never have any interaction with the teams. I have done baseball, football and basketball. Baseball trips are the best, but other than picking them up and dropping them off, you do not have anything to do with these teams. I flew an airplane that was owned by the team owner and operated on behalf of his teams, plus one other. Basketball is like being a freight dog. Football is only 8 road games, and baseball is not as bad simply because most trips are 3 ot 4 days and a lot of day games. Did get some nice front seats for the baseball games though.

Many sports teams, both pro and college, charter with an airline. Other teams charter or own their own airplane. 757's and 727's seem to be popular. Those are probably crewed by pilots who have experience in those types, so most of the pilots likely have airline backgrounds.

Try Champion Air, I'll give you my App. that they just sent me!!!

I fly A-rod in his G-Stream, but I'm sure that wasn't what you were looking for. I think the Redskins own a couple of jets, and a huge Saab. I think the company name is American Jet based out of KCMH and they fly a DC-9 and a King Air 90 to reposition crew. I wish I could be more helpful, but lets be honest, I just want to fly a football team so they will hire me as the back up place kick holder. lol

not a dodger fan, but went to 5 spring training games in Vero this year. neat place if you get the chance to see a game there.

What kind of Gulfstream does A Rod have and does he put it on a 135? Or is it 91?

Does he use it during the season or does he fly on the Yankee charter?

Really?? Funny, I have seen him flying with the team and I was driving. Albiet I havent flown the Rangers in a couple of years. Maybe he got it as a signing bonus.

I hang out with a couple pilots that fly for the owner of a well known sports team. They don't have anything to do with the players. Great pay, schedule and equipment. One of the best corp gigs I've seen.

Man, that's great to hear, I've got a couple of friends that fly for another sports team owner and they've got "stupid, chief pilot syndrome". Couple of great guys but, they're ready to leave because of the idiotic CP.

It's one of those operations where the CP thinks he is doing the Billionaire owner a favor by not "wasting" his money on the $475 annual NBAA fee:rolleyes: . This is an operation that could easily be first class, but the "class idiot's" been this guys pilot for 30 years:nuts: .

PS I hear there may be a CAAM event in San Diego 6/10-6/17;) .

Are you sure its not one of those cases where the guy saves XX number of dollars and he gets to pocket a percentage of it? I have worked for one of those individuals and its usaully the crews that take it in the pooper

I've met that CP, I described (professionally), and it's my impression that he's simply not that smart:eek: .

And we wonder why professional pilots are not compensated better.
Ever ask, "I wonder who these guys are that fly for nothing"?

I'm guilty too: I've got my own image of a "dream job" that I would sell out for, I guess.

Well I don't know who runs their ops, but whenever any of the ball teams are in town, their planes are parked by my FBO... so the next time the Dodgers are in PHX getting their butts kicked by the DBACKS, I'll let ya know... j/k man. But seriously a couple to check out, would be PACE or Champion ... they run a lot of the teams

Where I am we only see the players during draft season because they're being wined, dined and signed. They're usually in a very good mood at this point so it's fun. Might see a payer when he gets hurt too, that's no fun. Other than that it's the owners and charter customers all the time.

Redskins definitely have a Global...I've seen the Celtics getting on a 757.

The owners and coaches might travel on a Global but pro football teams usually travel on somehting like a DC-10. They have a lot of equipment and those are pretty big boys too
