ALPA national can not be blamed for what is negotiated at the LOCAL level. When it comes to national policy blame Prader all you want. But when a local NC swallows bad bait you can't scream at Herndon with any credibility.

First year pay sucks, it will always suck, its the business and its something that we live with and complain about.

Can anyone tell me why health insurance rates? copays? etc.... are even in this thing? I have never seen that before however I have limited experience....does swa, Airtran, JB anybody have this?

Yes, that's quite common. Every contract will contain either a listing of the exact rates the pilot pays, or the percentage of the total premium that the pilot and the company each pay. The rates in your TA aren't bad, and limiting the increase to only 7% per year is incredible. By comparison, an AirTran pilot can pay as much as $700+ per month for family coverage on the PPO (POS), and the company can increase our cost by 15% each year. Granted, our premiums are far above industry average, but it looks like the rates in your TA are pretty close to the industry average, and yearly increase is almost nothing.

The rates on the insurance also includes dental coverage. The POS plans Spirit has are open access, no referral "Cadillac" plans.

By increasing the contribution and cost sharing, the plan is no longer grandfathered under health care reform. That means, according to my wife, it doesn't matter what it says the cost sharing will be in the CBA. It will have to follow the law because it's no longer a grandfathered plan. That will mean first dollar coverage for preventative care, limits on annual and lifetime caps and more.

That max pay is at 15 yr. All the current captains on the list are at 9+ years. 10yr capt pay will come in at $159. Compared to other carriers at their max pay.

AA MD 80 Max $161
Cont $150
Delta $162
United $137
UsAir $142

Yep, why is it that so many people forget this? Everyone is in a concessionary contract this absolutely should not be used as the standard.

I haven't forgotten. However, each of those mentioned will need to come up with substantial percentage increases just to match and it won't be first year. A 10% bump NOW will put them at or above the new Spirit pay for the 10yr mark. What about the 15 yr mark? Not to mention how long are those negotiations going to take. Did they grandslam this thing, maybe, maybe not. Too me ALL THINGS considered I think they came out pretty decent. My hats off to them for seeing it through to the end. I worked at Spirit over 10 years ago under entirely different pay. At the time for me I thought it was a decent place to work, then. Also at the time I was in a mad dash to get to a major.
Check out this avaition timeline: First airline goes out of business, left second airline job for Spirit, would now be 2nd captain on list at that company, left Spirit for major, major now out of business would be 10+ captain at Spirit, now out of career flying totally. NOW make more and enjoy life much more.

Your comparing apples to oranges. Don't use what you could make. Use this number "104.00 reg line hourly".

True. But I know quite a few senior guys at Eagle making more than 150K because of how the contract and hourly rate changes.
