We just got our first resignation from a pilot going to Spirit next month.

Excellent! I saw two others from your company while I was at the interveiw so that could be potentially three new hires you need at USA Jet. I hope they all get the call they seemed like a great group of guys. YIP/PTK might be a place for someone furloughed or looking for work to come to as I just gave my two weeks notice as well. Good luck to all, I hope this momentum continues.

USA Jet could have 5 guys leaving...

What is the pay at Spirit?

The pay scales were posted here within the last two weeks. Run a search for the details. In short, begining FO is around $41/hour and fourth year Captain is around $93/hour, with (approximately) a 72 hour guarantee.

Hi!

Spirit just put out a press release saying they will purchase up to 90+ A320s, and they have committed to 35 at this time.

I read that they will initially take 18 319's and 17 321's over the next few years.

I hope they bump up that Capt. pay, for the 321 especially. Does anyone know if they have even come up with a pay scale for the Bus yet? How about benefits, retirement, pilot bases other than Detroit. FLL, right? Anywhere else?

I didn't negotiate the current contract, so I might not have the exact inside scoop, but it (the current contract) was negotiated with larger, or different, aircraft in mind. The contract contains language related to number of seats. A paraphrase of paragraph 26.X.2 says...........If the company places into service any aircraft with a seating capacity of more than 180 pax and less than 200 pax, the rates of pay are 110% of section 3 (the compensation chapter).
Paragraph 26.X.1 says (paraphrased again) that except for paragraph X.2, any new fleet type having a seating capacity of less than 99 pax or more than 180 will initiate conferences between the association and the company for the purpose of negotiating pay rates. If no agreement is reached in these talks it will go to an arbitrator, and the contract does include language that states that said arbitrator may consider three areas to determine pay. 1. current Spirit pay rates. 2. seating capacity differences. and 3. "rates paid by other carriers of similar revenues, nature of operations, and number of aircraft using the same equipment."

The last part of that sort of contradicts what I said last week, when I posted that our new aircraft pay rates would not be linked to other carriers pay rates. After researching the contract, it is obvious that the company can't dictate that we accept other carriers rates, but an arbitrator could do so.

I have no idea about new bases or retirement, but doubt that any are in the near future. However, every time I attempt to predict what Spirit will do, I get it wrong.

Thanks for the detailed information, I appreciate it. I doubt a guy like me would stand a chance over there, I only have in the low 3000's TT and about 700 hrs and counting in a 737. It's worth a try however.

I flew with a guy a few years back at a different company by the name of Greg Nordheim. He went to Spirit in late 99 or early 2000 I believe......anyone know if he's still around?

Thanks.

I'm not in hiring, but you're probably correct in that 3000 hours is too low,

Greg Nordheim is not on the current seniority list, nor do I remember him, and I was hired in 99.

sorry,

From my friends at TWA who just got hired by Spirit, 7,000 to 9,000 hours pilot time is common. A few were -80 Capt's. at TWA, too.

I'm happy they got on, thanks Spirit!TC

stats

They are pilots hiring with lower than posted above, and pilots with little expereince in Spirit equip.

I live in South Fla. and commute to DTW for Mesaba. I have a couple of questions for you Spirit folks:

I saw the address on the web site, but is there anyone specific you would address your cover letter to at Spirit?

Would it be worth while (or possible) to drive up to Miramar and walk my stuff in?

I have about 6500 TT, 3000 121 PIC in the Saab but NO jet experience, do I even have a shot?

Thanks for the info, and THANKS for all the rides home you guys have given me over the years.

As always, nothing I have to say about Spirit is in any way official.

The system CP is Captain Robert Burke.

I'm sure that it would be possible to drive to Mirimar. You would probably not get past the receptionist, but it couldn't hurt if you were polite and didn't get pushy.

Sorry, but I doubt that you have a chance. Even when we were hiring the dregs of aviation (like myself:D ) we still looked for a lot of Turbojet PIC. A few prop only guys were hired, but they needed a strong internal recommend. But, PLEASE, don't let me stop you, go for it and good luck.

Your welcome. I commute myself and will go as far as possible out of my way to give a fellow pilot a ride home. I've even given PFT'rs rides, along with a lecture of course. :D
