Look guys, I know how the game is played. I meet the mins, I just want a fair shake. I know that chances are I am not going to get hired at mins. I just want the mins to be realisticly stated. If they want 1000 TPIC, then they should post that on their jobs page. It would save me the money that I spent to apply. As for recommendations, not a one. I screwed up and went to a carrier without captain turnover. I stuck it out and upgraded and I am getting my TPIC, I just don´t know anyone except at the regionals. The only people to leave here are the FO's. I am just venting my frustrations a little, because after 3 years here I am finally meeting minimums, but not getting anywhere. It is looking like I am going to have to start over at a regional, and the thought of that disgusts me.

OK, I had one coffee too many and can't sleep despite needing to awake in six hours. Let me tell you a way for you to decipher the code.

Mins with internal recommendations and desired experience (international and mountain time would be nice) and a FLL or DTW address and a good attitude = published mins

To derive true mins add a thousand hours of jet time for each area in which you don't meet the above.

Don't bother getting upset by published minimums, they are what they are and everyone in this business should understand that. Now go have a beer and think something positive. And, consider this - when I was hired at Spirit, NO ONE in my class has less than about 10 years in this business but me, and I'd been at it for 9 not counting the CFI days. It has never been easy and the game goes to the persistant, committed individual.

Shrek, I am glad you are amused. I am not, I spent 55 dollars and a whole day filling out all the crap on airlineapps, specifically for Spirit. The reason is that I meet the stated minimums. If the CP is saying that 1000 PIC is required then they need to post that. I don´t need to waste my time or money focusing on places that are not going to look at my application.
Are you sure?! Airlineapps is FREE for the first airline. It is NOT for multiple airlines or you could get out of that by using multiple e-mail addresses.

For you to say you payed $55 bux for the subscription specifically for Spirit that is a complete lie.

If you had a different attitude then maybe things would change for you in the future......

BTW 1000 PIC is PREFERRED by the CP not REQUIRED.

Multiple E-Mail addresses, brilliant. Why didn't I think of that. You are right, the first airline is free. I went there to apply for Spirit and decided to buy a membership so I could apply elsewhere while I was at it. So technically, you are correct I didn't pay just for Spirit. Calling me a liar may be a little over the top. It is real simple, I was responding to a post on page two where the CP was quoted as saying 1000TPIC is required. If you are going to use a pay service for applications, I think it is only fair to post your real minimums. I could be completely out to lunch though. As far as my attitude, sure man. If you have never gotten frustrated or felt like you had come to a standstill, congratulations. I really don't think my attitude is out of hand. It is simply, be real in your requirements. If you want 1000 TPIC, then make that your mins. I really don't see how that is wrong.

How's your time? You've got 5000+ listed, which is fine; how's the turbine PIC? As of recently, CP has said that 1000 turbine/PIC is a must...I don't know if that's officially in print anywhere

I hear classes are full for the next couple of months. Does anybody know if that is true or not. I just got my 2500 and have a few interal recs so I am just waiting to see when the next time they are going to interview agian. thanks

All Airlines have minimums. People are hired with them, but the closer you are to them the more people your going to need to know. I've had my stuff in there since they started hiring, have over 4500 jet PIC and live in DTW. I still haven't heard from them. Unfornately that is the way things are. If you have something on file with them I'm sure it looks better to keep it there and update often. I'm sure that would count and who knows, you might be the one they call. If you offer something that they value, I'm sure they will call without a 1000 turbine PIC. There are thousands of applicants out there though, so they can be picky.

You can't get hired without applying.

Very good point Jiminememem :) Start jumpseating on us and get a rec in there.........we are definitely still hiring although I do NOT know the exact dates. It seems like you are what we are looking for.......try anything to get your app towards the top of the pile......good luck and keep the faith bud.

Any idea how Spirit lets you know if you're invited for an interview? Call or e-mail? From what my friend who's there says, it sounds like a good place to work for. :)

usually it is a call. but i heard some guys got an email. i got both.. a buddy of mine walked my resume into DC. She called me later that day. Until that point, I had my stuff in with airline apps for about two years and not a peep. If you don't know anyone, you can always show up at HDQ yourself and introduce yourself to DC. She is very friendly and would probably give you some bonus points. It helps to put a face with a resume.

Thanks, vandy. ;) My stuff's only been in for a very short time so I'll be very patient. My buddy brought it in to them, so hopefully I'll hear something...if not, hey, I've still got a job right now. :)

Thanks, yeah you are my first choice, nice to be with the hometown, I'll just keep updating and jumpseat when possible. Take care and fly safe

I got called two weeks after my friend walked my stuff in.
Also for the guys approaching the minimum requirements (and I m also reffering to the 1000 turbine PIC) it is possible to get hired with just that ;)

good luck

Awesome, I just totaled my TPIC...1005, lol. :) My buddy said they don't discriminate between SE/ME, is that true? About half of that's C208 time.

Philler Up, wow man I can't say what's not already been said. And as it's been said before you WON'T get an interview unless you apply. Mins are just that Min's. Imagine if you can 5,000+ resumes and only 100 interview slots for 40 pilot assignments at any given time. The company has to sort resumes by many different qualifications. We fly EFIS, 121, International, have bases in DTW and FLL these are just some of the things that come up as "hits" on the resume when assigning interviews.

Also, one day we hope that you will upgrade and having 1000 PIC shows, on paper anyway, that you have been a captain before and can handle it. Again, this is only on paper and doesn't mean that someone with less PIC won't be a good captain, but how will the company know that. Just bc the CP says we are only interviewing with 1000 PIC, that could be a for now thing. In a year or so, it may change again. Don't complain about it, just submit and update. It would be nice if there was an "easy" button for this screwed up profession we are all in. Back when I had lower time I was applying for a job and I talked to the CP at the time. He said I met the mins but there were many others that exceeded the mins. He told me "the rolling stone gathers no moss" In other words, don't get discouraged and keep plugging away.

Also, from what I have gathered Spirit is interviewing now for classes in June and building a pool for later class dates TBA. As of today after June, the next class isn't until sometime in September. That could change in an hour or tommorow or next month. I don't know if they will continue to interview through the summer for the fall classes.

good luck to all

What's the deal with ACY? Is that a new domicile? TDY? I reckon that would be a very unpleasant commute.

ACY is a voluntary only "satelite" base. For the time being it can not be TDY or assigned. It came to be to accommodate the people that live there. Spirit originally had a base in ACY then it was closed by the previous management. We do a lot of flying out of ACY and there was a huge hotel bill there.

The pilots and FA's that live in and near ACY and commute asked if there would be a base there again and wanted one. The company looked into it and found that there wasn't or didn't want to make a real base there. So after some research with ALPA they modeled ACY after the TWA satelite base program that worked well at TWA. Most of the people in ACY are Captains and senior FA's, but not very many FO's live there and wanted to be there. So I believe there are only a few lines to accommodate the schedule as of now. There are more FA lines. If a pilot is from ACY area and wanted to work at Spirit and live there and be based in ACY...with all of the rules subject to the base, it could be an "in" for a FO applicant. There are some gooofy rules subject to being in ACY, however from what I gather most of the lines are all turns. So to be home almost every day it could be worth it.

And yes it would be a sucky commute if you didn't want to be there.

Unfortunately, the FO's that live near ACY live "near" ACY not "there". So, they want to have a base like DTW or FLL where they can bid a line that has 4-5 day trips. So they would drive to ACY, park and come back 4-5 days later. What happened was the lines were out and backs. That's good for those that live there. It's not good for those that don't and would drive 60 miles each way to the airport and have tolls. So, it's a lot cheaper to take the train to PHL and commute to work to DTW and come back 4-5 days later!
