Just heard from my friend at Spirit they're furloughing 20 FOs' and displacing 15 Captains. He said the pilots rejected the idea of a 16 percent paycut instead.

How far back will they be going, what class date?

I did a little inquiring, and my Spirit buddy tells me that twenty is about two classes. It would be more, but Spirit has apparently been loosing newly trained A320 guys to JetBlue. I hear that Spirit has lost 7 FO's to JetBlue lately. That's fine by me, the more that go to Jet Blue, the fewer competing with me for a SWA seat:-)

So, what's really going on at Spirit?

That seems to be a common question lately, especially at Spirit.

It is my OPINION that our management has found a way to get out from under some MD80 leases and is getting rid of them while the opportunity exists. Doing so will leave us short of airplanes for about four months, therefore management, not realizing how detrimental job loss rumors are to employee efficiency, decided to cut loose a few FO's for the summer.

It is my desire that my employeer succeed. If Spirit fails, I will probably return to my previous career, because there aren't any flying jobs left that want me. Even though I work hard to help Spirit succeed, I'm getting less and less optimistic about our long term outlook. We seem to lack direction, leadership and a PLAN.

Techs areas too

We got word from some our former employees working in non-flight positions, that lay off's have been announced in their work centers starting this week.

PilotYip, does this affect our friend D.W.? I forget his Flightinfo handle... What about all the others that have gone there recently?

well x-dog...furloughs go back to August class...so J an D are save.

....as for me, I'm **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED**tin' my pants...

guess I kinda brought that on myself, leaving the save haven of USA Jet...pilots beeing furloughed at Spirit...who ever heard about such a thing???YEAH RIGHT.

Well if you read the "majors" board you'll find out that JetBlue makes people in Basic Idoc drink some kind of "Blue Kool-Aid" that brainwashes them into thinking that JetBlue is the only airline worth flying for and that theres never going to be anything wrong.... So once you're there you stop thinking about ever going anywhere else again.

Upon reviewing this thread, I notice this phrase, "He said the pilots rejected the idea of a 16 percent paycut instead."

I'm not an MEC member, don't play an MEC member on TV, and didn't stay in a HIE last night.....But I feel pretty comfortable in telling you that the rejected concessions had/have nothing to do with the furlough announcements.

The furloughs are the result of the company taking an opportunity to return more MD80's than they had previously thought possible in the time frame. Leaving us a little fat on pilots for a few months. Managment would have taken this opportunity to get rid of the maddogs, whether we conceeded or not.

Don't let anyone convince you that concessions could have prevented this latest demo of managments' incompotence in the human relations field.
