Just got done filling out the online app for Spirit. I found it interesting that the options for type rating were: Turbojet, Other Large Aircraft Other Than Lighter Than Air, B737. I thought all they flew were MD80's (DC9 type) and Airbus 320's (A320) type. Are they just seeing if anyone might look to go to Soutwest some day and round file those apps? Also any other insights to Spirit would be appreciated.

OK where would you prefer it to be? I know things are spiraling into the $hitter but I thought A-320's and MD-80's were still considered mainline airplanes.

Giving up on Mesaba already? How do you have the experience to apply if you were at the bottom of the list at Mesaba and just came there from WMU. You couldn't have been online for more than 6 months.

so you think the folks in HR are tripping over them selves to hire someone with no turbine pic time? Might want to start think'n more in your ballpark lil man.

Then I guess you don't think Airtran,ATA, Hawaiian, Aloha, Frontier and World should be on this major thread either, but they are. There is no National Forum, if you hadn't noticed. Plus, just the majors would get a little boring. Oh well, back to my B767-300, hope I can fly it as good as the Major guys.

Who cares how long he was on line at Mesaba. You got to apply everywhere. Let them decide if the applicant has 'enough' experience.

"You miss 100% of the shots you never take" as the old adage goes.

I didn't come straight from WMU. I spent a year in charter and corporate world before Mesaba. And I was at Mesaba for about 9 1/2 months before my "vacation". I have a complete lack of desire to commute (I'd rather not fly at all) and my wife has a decent job in Detroit so I am trying to stay based here. Unfortunately that doesn't leave me with many options. And I do meet the published minimums for Spirit, so what the hey. I didn't meet the published minimums at the charter company til the week I quit there, yet they hired me but I wouldn't have known that unless I sent them my resume. The real kicker was I had the most total time among F/O's the day I was hired.

That was rude. Spirit pays the same/more than the new legacy airlines and flys the same type of equipment.

If by Major you mean an airline that outsources everything (including junior pilots), then I will agree that Spirit is not a Major.

Man nothing much ever changes You Bitch and whine just like you did in "The Pit"

you forgot to add in that rant how really cool you were to ferry that V-tail out of the farm when everyone told you that was a accident waiting to happen. Thats the Spirit!

How was my response whining? I simply was correcting an incorrect timeline and making a point that if you don't apply you won't get the job. And I've never said I was cool for flying anything.

Tell you what....major or not....all pilots are being typed in the A320....making a great wage with 17 days off....I am happy...you can call me a regional guy all you want....oh by the way...profitable and growing!
