The hand slap recently given to Southwest Airlines following recent uncovering of a clearly collaborative evasion of safety mandates, is clear evidence of a less than professional relationship with Southwest Airlines senior management and the Federal Aviation Administration. The $10.2m fine is an mear insult to any person of resonable ecomomic competence, expecting them to feel justice in a case of this nature, or the FAA defining their severity of punishment for safety negligence of our nations traveling public. At that price for penalty it bluntly encourages more plausible neglect since in relation to Southwest's finacial status or any other carrier of "Major" stature, it's just good "economic" busniess to risk an unlikely accident in interest of long term economics. There is no better way of measuring or labeling this action imposed by the FAA, than a "feel good factor" to the general public and: An absolute insult to the price of punishment.

The feds have always looked the other way at Southwest. It makes you wonder what else they were "shaking hands" on regarding the running of their operation?!

Thats why they have the best safety record then any other airline flying. I guess that was SWA's fault also. Grow up morons. You are a complete idiot if you think YOUR airline isnt or wasnt doing the same. BOO HOO.:bawling:

Must have touched a nerve! I was just reiterating what I read in the press.
Its pretty ironic that swa gets nailed with a $10 million fine for "buddying up" with the faa?!
It just makes you wonder what other "safety related" issues they're covering up!

Must've just gotten your SWA rejection letter, huh??
Maybe you could make a more cogent argument if you first learned to spell.....

Uh-huh....and we all know how spot-on the media reporting is with aviation issues, right?

Yep, we're dangerous. Stay away. In fact I've been thinking about quitting a lot lately....while I'm still alive. Hey Brick, think you could walk my app in over there at Skywest?

SWA could buy the FAA quite a few plasma TVs and pizza with that kind of money....

Hey...those ATC guys work hard...we just like to...ummm..."reward" them for their efforts....on our behalf.

I hear the ATC "Beer and Burger" parties are fun...so I've been told.

What you guys are totally missing the consperacy!!!! This whole thing was drummed up so that we could make 20 mil off the American groundings...

"The $10.2m fine ..."

No problem. As someone else mentioned, AA essentially paid the fine for SWA by sending or causing so many passengers to fly on SWA.

It's all over the the top politics anyway. Knee jerk reactions and absolute over-kill.

That 10.2 million fine will never be paid. It will be negotiated down or completely done away with. But will the media report that? No way, not sensational enough.

Southwest helped Boeing develop there maintenance schedules and inspections on the 737. This issue was self disclosed to the FAA and it was supposed to have been over last year. Someone thought they would blow the whistle on something thats already be covered. Wow, impressive. Southwest is one of the safest airlines out there and aviation in general is safer now than at any other time in its history.

Now the rest of the airlines have been pulling airplanes out of service and canceling flights. Hummmmmmm I wonder why? Maybe they are hiding something too? Or maybe there in bed with there FAA POI. You be the judge.

Lets face it. The FAA is a bureaucracy thats under manned, underfunded and counts on the airlines to do the right thing. The airlines have a vested interest to make sure that Safety is the #1 goal!

In time this will just be another blip on the radar.

So I guess Delta and AA will be fined by the Feds for having to reinspect their md-80's. What no fine. Well then their must be something going on here. I just can't believe this, what will all the pax say about this.
I hope you will spend more time trying to merge your seniority list then you will posting about how jealous you are about SWA! Take it easy budy and best of luck!

Thanks for the best of luck.
And no, I'm not jealous of SWA. I'm just wondering if their lack of attention to their maint. resulting in a huge fine is any way of how the rest of their airline is run.....You know, that safety thingy??;)

Thanks again for the best wishes bravodude.

Lesson plan for VIXIN: research synonyms "then" & "than."

Lesson plan for BRICK TOP: research the definition of "synonym".

Ill help: 1.a word having the same or nearly the same meaning as another in the language, as joyful, elated, glad.

Being a smart azz only works when youre correct.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth...

And yet you can't seem to place an apostrophe in your words that require one...

Everyone likes to get on southwest b/c they prove over and over that it is possible to hustle and compete in aviation and still be safe.

Meanwhile most major guys are very busy negotiating for their laziness while management only wants to screw them- both sides stepping over the millions of dollars that are out there for someone/anyone who can run an airline. SWA finds win/wins w/ their pilot group to make them more productive- both sharing in that effort- (stop me if i'm wrong) - they've kept their promises for 30 years and you're seeing pilots who care to do a good job and keep the airline on schedule. To me- there's nothing unsafe or wrong w/ hustling and doing the job well.

Criticism for this FAA 'coziness' is better pointed at Bush and another example of how the various administrations under his ultimate leadership tend to be incompetent. It's what happens when you owe people politically- where loyalty counts for more than doing your job well. It's cronyism... pure and simple and ugly. (it's not a coincidence that this has centered around texas companies. btw- how has continental fared in this mess? i haven't heard them mentioned.)

Anybody care to comment on the culture within the FAA that allowed all this to happen.

How would you like to be the whistle-blowers, Mr Boutris and Peters...coming back to the DFW office...the very office where you just ratted out all your buddies.

Any bets on the promotion opportunities ( or lack thereof) for Mr's Boutris and Peters in the remainder of their FAA careers?
