Yeah, for the new BWI to DTW service.(Why??) You are running out of city pairs. Great. Enjoy that.

Why? Judging by the track record of our guys in DAL, probably because there's money there. Yeah. We're running out of city pairs. So much so that we won't even have a chance to paint our newest delivery from Ford before we put it in service. Southwest is not a company that is "running out of city pairs". But I do understand why you're pissed and taking a stab at anything you can...

I know one ATL .Just wait till (if ) DAL comes out of chapter 11. It will be another DEN.

Which gates will you use? Airtran is still waiting for more. Try Macon, GA--south of town.

When I read that in the news I wondered, "What the heck?" Maybe there are more city pairs, but not all are good. Hey, whatever if it might make a buck.

Dude...the possibilities are endless...if you only knew. SWA hasn't even scratched the surface. Oh yeah...ATL is a possibility...rumor has it that SWA already has rights to new gates once that new terminal is up an running

Try asking USair about keeping us from getting gates ( BWI ). We will be paying for our gate and DAL gives broken promisses. See you in ATL this summer.

Dude, bring it on. DL offers a much better product, has a world-wide network, and will emerge with a very low cost structure. Your arrogance is getting old. "We need your airplanes to feed our inevitable march toward world domination". What a bunch of crap. When you've been around awhile you'll realize that just when you feel invincible, the fall is right around the corner.

Wow, big words. Can't wait to see you there. Riiiiiight. Huh? You are on dope. See you in SFO too. Oh wait, you left SFO. Wright ON! Oh wait, you don't get everything you want....Connecting thru other cities from DAL isn't too bad I guess.

Take a deep breath...

SWA's approach here is to go against the merger (side with Delta) if we are not allowed to have access to gates on the east coast. I don't think we are truly "for" or "against" the merger. I believe we simply want gates/airplanes if it were to go through and get approved. Just trying to make lemonade out of lemons.

Gary Kelly said on the newsline this week he thinks the takeover has a better than 50-50 shot of going though, in addition to a reiteration of what the press release at the top of this thread said.

Most of us know Gary (or SWA in general) really wants to get into NYC. I think SWA could raise some antitrust concerns with the DOJ (or is it DOT?) to try to get their hands on one the the Shuttles. Perhaps SWA will end up at the Marine Air Terminal in LGA pretty soon... I'd rather see that than ATL anytime.

Well said. But many of us here at SWA know this already from firsthand experience...

Just for the record, I was not trying to be arrogant...The General mentioned that SWA is running out of city pairs and that's far from true. SWA is not invincible...no one is. I have worked in the DL system for 6+ years...feeding the big DL and the last thing I want to see is USAir make a disaster of the entire DL operation...especially since it's finally getting back on it's own two feet.
I think SWA management is remarkable...if this merger does happen the winner in all of this might be SWA...who would have ever dreamed up that scenario. I have many friends at DL and their connection carriers...this would not be good for DL...just observing the brains behind SWA that's all. Arrogance? please...I remember 6 years ago, the most arrogance I have ever seen in my life was under Concourse A in ATL...I doubt SWA will ever have that level of arrogance.

SWA tried ATL previously. They were met with the cold shoulder, and that shoulder would be even colder now. Most of the real SWA guys know this . . . and don't feel the need to kick someone whose company is going through a hard time.

The few guys on this string running their man-pleasers about Delta/ATL are just idiots. Just what we needed arond here, more idiots . . .Welcome aboard.

they just don't make any money selling it.

We do now. We made $52 million last quarter. We are trending upward, and that is one thing USAir was not doing when AWA bought them.

Bye Bye--General Lee

You are right about that, though as the General pointed out, things are turning around. I think we are seeing the final fallout of deregulation here, where the remaining old carriers with large pension and medical benefit obligations make themselves competitive for the future. It's not too different from GM trying to compete with Toyota when GM offers benefits for life and Toyota gives you a 401k. The cost of providing a pension and healthcare to an employee for life is huge.

Every remaining old carrier except AA has been through bankruptcy at least once and AA has seen severe cuts. Painful as it has been it will put us all on a relatively equal comptitive footing.

we are all just along for the ride...definately zero control as to who is driving the locomotive...so I don't know why we all sit here and bicker
