Wow, I finally made it to the "majors" board -- kind of.

I'm in my senior year of college as an Aviation Technology Major at the Metropolitan State College of Denver.

I'm applying for an internship at Southwest Airlines. The details are linked.

I've got most of my application packet ready to go except for the "Why SWA" essay. I'm having a hard time putting words to paper on why I want to work for SWA. The profitability, the corporate culture, the People! I have many reasons and hard time making a coherent essay of out of this.

I'm not sure who in the People Department is going to read my essay.

Would any Southwest pilots, and anybody else for that matter, care to post some pointers for me on what the People Department might be looking for in this essay?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I am applying for this too. It seems as though they are looking for some creativity but who knows how much... im interested in responses also....

FLyingtoohigh: any specific questions PM me....i have just been talking to a captain for SWA I know.

Read the book Nuts You already know, like you said, you just need to put it in to words.

I would point out the strengths of Southwest, including the management/labor relationships. That is the one major thing that is lacking at most of the majors today: Trust between groups. The strong balance sheet and higher pay despite the number of unions is another plus, along with the fun attitude. Maybe when Herb really does retire, he might want another challenge, and I know an airline that would love to have him.....Good luck.

Bye Bye--General Lee:cool:
