Im coming up on my interview for southwest and need some advice. one of the companies I flew for in the past went out of business four years ago. I need to put this airline in my application because of the 5 year background check. What should I do? It was a very small company with only 2 other pilots and I can't find anyone. It was a 135 cargo company. I have paper work of 2 checkrides I took when I was working there but the dates on the papers don't include 1 month of training. I have a friend that can vouche for me that works for the FAA is that enough? Did anyone have a similar problem?

For your Pilot Records Improvement Act paperwork, simply fill in the name, last known address, etc. of the company. To satisfy the FAA, the carrier must show that they attempted to get the records, even if the letter comes back to them. As far as confirming your employment, you could give the name and phone number of someone else who worked there who could verify your employment- Director of Ops, Chief Pilot, etc.

Good luck.

CA,

To show proof of employment take your W-2s from the years you worked there and be prepared to include them in your package when you submit it. The other advice about finding folks that flew with you is accurate. Good luck,
