Flying International....oooooh scary.

Had no problem flying international when I was a dumb-sh!t, low time AF pilot...and we did our own flight planning.

Now that I am a dumb-sh!t airline pilot with another 6,000 hours under my belt (sorry don't pick up extra flying too often) I am going to somehow have a problem getting to Jamaica or Mexico?

Do you guys get paid for the total amount of shortcuts you can get, per leg?

It seems like every Southwest plane, on every frequency, checks on and asks for a shortcut. Even if the previous controller had just given him one, or the frequency is obviously congested and the controller is busy, you can count on the Southwest pilots to ask for shortcuts. I love it when the controller straight up, turn them down!

Knock it off...it's ok to ask for one here or there, or every so often, but on EVERY FLIGHT, and EVERY FREQUENCY? I feel like they're becoming known as the needy bunch...

Well...

Not EXACTLY a respectful question when the last two paragraphs are factored in. You built in a flame response.

I admire the SWA pilot quest to save time, which saves money. In the 30 years I've been following them they hustle, they make it happen, they make money, they dominate.

Hard to sit back and get snarky with winners. Maybe the rest of us should get a little fire on, too.

You can taxi out slowly, taxi in slowly, fly slowly and never ask for shortcuts to pad your block time. That's fine. Take forever, make your money.

Just don't do it in front of me. I want to get there as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Plus, I fly PM lines which means I'm always trying to make up for the 1 hour late hand-off from the AM flyers (a SWA tradition).

I was coming back from MOB the other day and was given direct destination from Memphis Center. As soon as we were into BNA airspace (destination) we were put into a holding pattern while they threw 2 SWA aircraft in front of us. Dont get me wrong, I have plenty of LUV for SWA but damn. I've been with a major corporate outfit for over 10 years in BNA. I guess they think my boss can afford it I suppose. Maybe these pizza parties are the trick:)

BTW: I'm not looking forward to trying to share airspace with you SWA guys in the Carribbean and the Mexican Yucatan. Lot's of airports without actual radar and lot's of single runways. You guys are going to have to cut the crap...

Wow with all your international experience you should write a book.

Look chuckle head the last thing you want to "assume" is that SWA or any other airline that has CONUS destinations only, lacks experienced aviators who has more experience sitting in a crapper at FL350 then all of your flying time would be a mistake.

I could list all the destinations I and many of my friends at SWA have been too but why bother.

Like flying to Mexico and the Caribean is tough....YGTBSM.

I'm sure a lot of you guys have been all over. But the corndog has not. For 30 years you all have been flying that thing like you stole it. We've all been putting up with it in the CONUS but it will have to stop when you depart. In fact, it ought to stop all together....

Why do you think flying the Caribbean and Mexico is so difficult?!?! I felt it to be no big deal after my first flight down.

Come on. You SWA guys game every single aspect of the ATC system. You've got away with it in the US, but it won't work outside it. Sometimes you've got to hold or take a heading in these places, or fly the whole proceedure, or maybe have to fly a real slow 30 mile final so they can get departures out. It's frustrating to eveyone but sometimes it's necessary. I don't imagine you guys will even do half of what they ask you to.

You SWA guys game every single aspect of the ATC system.

Why even bother with a response.

Yes we all game every aspect of the system, cheat on our wives and IRS returns, drive drunk and beat our kids...

You must still be young, cause apparently you still KNOW EVERYTHING...

Flop,

We fly our planes safely and efficiently. We check the environmentals (winds, enroute wx, ...) before asking for shorter routes.

I fly the airplane like my motion sick kids are in the back and I am paying for the fuel. Put things in that perspective, and you have a recipe for success.

Regarding taxi speeds, we taxi within FAA-approved FOM guidance.

Another thing, there is absolutely nothing difficult about flying international ops. Many of us have done it, some for years before coming to SWA.

Here is my whole post again you F@$ng GOMER. I am 99% sure you are either a SCAB or someone who had nowhere else to go. Either way you are an arrogant jerk and a loser.

Many of you little pri$&ks went to work for Lorenzo. Your airline and it's multiple years of operating under bankruptcy did more to harm the industry than any single factor since the early 80's.

As to my international experience, I will match my military experience. My 8 years flying the 727 all over the Caribbean, Central and South America with Eastern and my Left seat in the 747 flying for Singapore against anything you brought to Continental from your Beech 1900 flying for Gulfstream.

Just the fact that you avoided the SCAB legacy question tells me that you are most likely a SCAB or your Daddy was.

What would you like to know? I have the list, would you like one? I also noted each and every one who was on our interview list and gave steller recommendations to our Chiefs. Strangely, not a one got hired. I can't figure out what they did wrong in the interview....maybe it was an honor thing. We are kind of big on that here.

Your military service is certainly very honorable. But apart from that I can crap just as big as you on any industry issue. And I'll tell you something, I don't care if you are a scab! Aint no shortage of guys with your exact same pedigree that are. But ALPA let them in. They're all full members wearing pins now. And what did they do wrong in the first place? Find a way to take your seat outside the collective bargaining process, right? Big deal! It's nothing short of what you've done campaigning for someone else's seat with retirement age change! You know how many strikers I have to fly with that like to show me a 30 year old list of names of guys who took their seat, while they are sitting in the seat they took from me?! And you're using the word "honor"?! That word has no meaning in the airline pilot profession. There is no one left standing that has any...

Only you could compare someone who flys past 60 to a SCAB.

They took the seat from you?

You arrogant little pri&@k.

Nice LOG of jets!

Based solely on the AMOUNT of aircraft that you have flown, it seems that you have had many PILOT Jobs. Maybe more than most. Kinda seems like its hard for you to keep a job there $sshole. Get a life and get a real job billybob. We get paid off productivity. Great to get the profit sharing check EVERY year!

Psssttt, it's aircraft that he fueled, not flew. ;)

You know, 5 pages of absolute crap could have been avoided if someone had just mentioned the truth. That SWA are paid flight trip credit, not by actual block. So, it's in their best interest to take shortcuts once airborne. Or to taxi a little quicker than the other mainline aircraft around them.

Good call. There is NO incentive to pad time at SWA like those on an hourly system. Too, the SWA guys are highly motivated to maintain sched, make it work, make money for the airline and themselves. American capitalism is a wonderful thing. Better to part of it than be jealous of it.

Dude, really? What the he!! do you care? You fly your airplanes, and we'll fly ours, how about that? Oh, and we'll make an a$$ load of money flying ours...moron.

ATR..will you plz post pics of your watch, house, car, wife, boat, etc. Oh yeah, also, your a$$hole certification diploma.

You arrogant little pri&@k.

Yeah, well you're an ignorant hypocrite.

Question: How much strike pay did you get out of ALPA? Did you ever pay any strike assessments? My Dad, the one you're sure is a scab, paid his last assessment even after he lost his airline income.

So guys in your generation have to beg off the normal retirement age and you sucked up strike pay like a bunch of sponges. What's next? What else are guys like me going to have to pick up the tab on?
