FedEx Corp. reported the following consolidated results for the fourth quarter:

*Revenue of $7.72 billion, up 10% from $7.04 billion the previous year
*Operating income of $740 million, up 8% from $685 million a year ago
*Operating margin of 9.6%, down from 9.7% the previous year
*Net income of $448 million, up 9% from last year's $412 million

From here.

Shall we dispense with the e-penis brandishing from now on, or would you like to continue?

Those numbers are impressive!! Just think how more impressive they would be if domestic cargo was contracted out to trucks and Discount Cargo Pilot guy!!

I'm sorry, was someone talking about potential Greyhound traffic?

Listen, you guys seem determined to carry this fight way beyond what it deserves....

If that works for your TAFB or G time, then that's cool....otherwise I'm going to have to say :"Get a life!"

thanks bluejuice!

I thought we could not use the F word?

The usual, pilot141 and his wit.

A correction. Somebody said that SWA doesn't have a retirement plan. They most certainly do, it's just not the same program as some other airlines. The 401K is a retirement plan.

Oh.......hey, the pile-on! Another nice SWA team tactic! Unless you have another witty comeback with someone else's earnings, or some facts, then I'm not really worried about my wit...but thanks for caring, guys.

Five freaking pages of SWA bashing! Pilot 141, USNFDX, very sad display, maybe if you had a life you could stay off of SWA threads with you constant bashing. No piece of SWA good news is allowed to speak for itself.

Quick, there is a Southwest thread on pprune.org, if you all hurry you can get in just in time to beat the rush.

edited for language...Pilot121 is on a three day vacation for language.

I guess we can't use the F word, here.

2 Food Fights in < 24 hours, another forum record. Bed time folks, see ya next week.

And also no hull loss in the fourth quarter, impressive!!!!

How was that landing in Tallahasee, Florida or that MEM accident. Now do you think any of us is allowed to throw stones.

Read the thread. I don't bash SWA. Just SWA/FO. I like SWA. I call BS on things ( mostly SWA/FO's trash) For more info on him see "SWA/FO" Thread http://forums.flightinfo.com/showthread.php?t=70764

Probably similar to those landings in Burbank and Midway!!

Everytime I get to the end of one of these airline-bashing threads, I can't believe I wasted my time reading it. And here I am posting a quick reply... good grief... I'm going back to my reality TV show.

OK. To set this up you have to get the Barney tune in your head. Let's sing along.

I hate you,
You hate me,
Here we are swimming in this pee.
With an F-Bomb here,
and a "screw you" over there,
Oh this thread is getting really rare.

Gup

This message is written to the SWA wannabe

I too have waded through the past five or so pages trying to get perspective on the 4Q profit SWA made and how/why/what's going to happen in the future. I thought I would possibly read about aircraft deliveries or ideas about the future. Instead, I've read about a few pilots talking about the merits of FedEx or SWA over each other.

Getting back to the point of this thread and why this board really exists, financial stability is definitely a huge factor in making a decision to get a type rating (or not) and apply to SWA. The fact that a company is financially stable can have a huge impact on your QOL and long term goals. Falconjet makes some outstanding points throughout this thread. (I invite you to go back and re-read his posts.)
Don't get distracted with the company x vs company y banter from others(some of it can get pretty unprofessional). Believe me, 99% of the guys you'll fly with at SWA are awesome professionals.

I used to read these boards as a wannabe and couldn't understand how/why fellow pilots would write the things that they do (against each other). While I still don't get it (probably never will), I've never lost sight of trying to help a brother out and give the all important perspective of what the real deal is.

Southwest is profitable because they have great folks who care about the future of the company. They (the company) are constantly looking at ways of improving what we do. In many ways, however, the indispensable opposition (dissenting opinion about the company's actions) is needed to keep the company in check.

Bottom line: SWA has a realistic plan for the future for continued profitability. They're not going to implement work rules or policy without consent from the pilot group. They're going to continue to be profitable because they have experienced folks who continually hone the business plan. And (IMHO) it's worth the strain to get the type and apply for the opportunity for an interview.

Good luck,

jtb

On a personal note, Falconjet is a class act and doesn't need to post the points he has about SWA - but IMHO he's also the kind of guy who hasn't lost track of what this board is all about. You have no idea how you helped this humble pilot get his dream shot. Your selfless perspective is appreciated more than you know. Thanks FJ.

The people who regularly post on this website are embarrassing. SWA guys and non-SWAguys alike.

This site used to be fun. Now it's annoying.

I'll admit its hard to keep focus when your being attacked from several people. Thats why I started the thread to talk about Southwest's 4Q results.... Don't group me with those idiots that tried to hijack this thread to the Cargo forum.

.......until the jealous Fex Ex guys chime in and remind us that their company makes more money, have no peanuts or F/A on board, have ugly uniforms, sleep during the day, has management that is trying to replace them and has ugly airplane paint jobs. :)

i might be wrong but i think this thing got ugly after this post....but in any case..lets move on..and "ugly paint jobs" who said "DHL"?

I would say you're wrong....look at post #2, #13 & #18

This was your reply (below) after I said Fed Ex had ugly uniforms, ugly paint jobs, no F/As and no peanuts.....with a smiling face at the end - ((((you think I might have been joking?... you think?))))

ok... where do i sign up to take a huge pay cut...fly tiny airplanes...fly 12 legs a day..and get no retirement...oh..i can't..i did not buy a 737 type..oops

.....looks as if you started the thread downhill. That was very mean to say those hurtful things to us on our own Southwest thread.

ok...i also was obviously joking as others..no big deal..swa and fdx are awesome places to work...but what's up with DHL's paintjobs?

the yellow? Is that the latest, the yellow?

I guess they are trying to brand their own color, UPS = Brown, Fed Ex = Orange/purple, DHL = yellow. Kinda like Home Depot is Orange and Lowe's is blue...just trying to sitck out I guess? What can yellow, do for you?

NWA thought we were about 2 years ago. I even read it in the USA Today.... I'd say CLT, MSP before MEM. I think it would be an excellent source of revenue... its just on the back burner. DEN is the latest "hot" city for us, they are very happy with the bookings and look to grow it fast.
