I'll second what FO said...... YEAH BABY! Green money is a beautiful thing. Let's enjoy it
.......until the jealous Fex Ex guys chime in and remind us that their company makes more money, have no peanuts or F/A on board, have ugly uniforms, sleep during the day, has management that is trying to replace them and has ugly airplane paint jobs. :)

ok... where do i sign up to take a huge pay cut...fly tiny airplanes...fly 12 legs a day..and get no retirement...oh..i can't..i did not buy a 737 type..oops

You need a personality too. You need to sleep during the night, like the rest of the World. I'm not so sure you would be getting a pay cut? Could be a raise for you. I bet you really enjoy your SORTS...gotta love waiting around for the SORT. We don't fly 12 legs a day dude, and if we did we would still get paid for them.

Wow... the lack of professionalism, statesmanship, humility, and respect that we airline pilots display to one another in this thread and on Flightinfo is truely astounding. This is really, really sad.

I am amazed.

Hey pilot141,

Let me add this, prove it! I had no part in your Fed Ex cheap shot that was offered above. I did notice, you like defending your company (Fed Ex) it sure looks as if I do the same thing with my Company. But when I do it its called boasting and bragging. Who invited you to this SOUTHWEST party anyway? Besides our 737 look better then any of yours :crying:
Again, I refer you to the facts.

You STARTED a thread boasting about SWA profits. I offered some facts about FedEx (numbers only).

You apparantly took this as a "cheap shot". So be it. Facts are "cheap shots". Insults and large-font type along with smiley faces pass as coherent arguments with you.

If you feel you have won this so-called "argument", then fine, you have. Everyone on this board who can actually read will think differently.

i'm just busting his stones...nothing against swa..he started bashing fedex so i responded...no big deal...and fedex is 60% dayflying now since we haul the us mail...unless i can still make over 200k a year and block less that 200 hours it would be a loss...

AS a Southwest employee please except my apology. I feel SWA FO is and has been out of line and very cocky with his posts. I hope he is impersonating but we can only assume the worst. I am embarrased by his gloating and obvious display of ignorance in this profession. Once again i am sorry for his behavior.

P.S. Fed EX is a great company with great employees. I flew feeders for you guys for 3 years and loved it.

Really, I didn't....

You guys would know if I was bashing Fed Ex. I like you guys, however, I ship everything on UPS. You guys are a good backup plan.

Aaaggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh, someone get this knife out of my back, it hurts! I guess, you didn't read all the posts in this thread? New to the board? I always post our earnings every QTR. I have for sometime. Thanks for your support.

I think FedEx is a fine company too..

seriously...profits are great...hope our companies continue to prosper along with others..it's great to have good news in this day and age...fly safe..later

Thanks CaptainMark, happy flying.

N1,

Thank you... The next few weeks are going to be tough as a rash of bad quarterly losses will be posted by many airlines, and the NWA and DAL debacle unfolds. Not to mention what might happen with crude oil as it relates to the Iran mess.
In these times, caring and support can go a long way. Hopefully one day we will all enjoy the same success that LUV is finding in these difficult times.

Congrats to LUV for a great quarter. Don't forget that there are many airlines and pilots out there who are finding themselves in completely different and difficult circumstances.

"I always post our earnings every QTR. I have for sometime. Thanks for your support. "

Actually, Lowercur usually does. Then it is followed up by his paragraphs of "How to run an Airline and sell insurance. "

Actually SWA/FO usually does do this first, I know that at least it seemed to me that he usually gets the thread on here first on announcement day, just like today. Then it is usually followed by the same replies, from the same people every quarter. For the life of me I don't understand why anyone who does not work for Southwest, or aspire to, actually posts on these threads. I read nothing in the first post that even remotely included FedEx, UPS, UAL, DAL, CAL, NWA or anyone else. Why would SWA/FO's remarks be any worse than what is posted by others, on a thread related to Southwest? Really guys, just stop reading it.

Nice post, FalconJet

FalconJet's post touched on a very important premise of our hedging strategies -- they are part of our overall business strategy...since 1992.

Outstanding foresight and capital ability allowed us to expand our hedging program as oil forecasts became increasingly bleak. More importantly, reasonable assurance of hedging gains allowed SWA to alter business strategies and exert more pressure over a longer period on competing airlines.

As mentioned in the webcast today, domestic capacity is declining and yields are improving. When SWA has bled competitors as much as feasible, and fuel costs make increased prices imperative, you will see SWA get closer to other airlines on ticket price increases.

Those of you who want to merely subtract "hedging gains" from announced profits have a very simplistic and weak understanding of big business. Not a slam, just a challenge to study more and increase your knowledge base. I could use the same advice, and learn more about fixing stuff around the house! :-)

Well, can we all get a group hug here?

Thanks to all the SWA guys who stood up here and said the right thing...you guys work for a great airline, and I've got a lot of people who I count as close friends who work for you. I want nothing but the best for your airline and your careers.

Good luck in the future and I hope you have continual profits.

I'll just say this...be careful: The airline business is a big barrell, and eventually it's everyone's turn at the top and eventually the bottom. Be modest, be respectful and be professional and you will have a long and successful career.

Fly safe out there!

Tragedy

FDJ2 said:
It's not a cheap shot. It's a tragedy. Nothing cheap about it. A 6 year old is dead, a moron makes light of the accident that killed him and you rush to his rescue. Why?
FDJ2: Canyonblue hadn't made any mention of any accident in his post. You obviously somehow tied his we can rebuild it post to the recent accident at MDW. You were the first to mention that incident in this thread, and I haven't heard ANYBODY from SW ever make light of that incident. I didn't make a connection between his post and that incident, and I'm not sure I follow how you did.

Yes the poor child is dead, and that can't be changed now. It is a tragedy. You don't do much to help the situation by lobbing cheap shots over the fence.

I wasn't defending anybody, I was just commenting that you are inviting ill will and bad luck on yourself by doing so.

Of course I woudn't rush to rescue anybody who had made light of that incident. I never thought (and still don't) that that was anybody's intent.

SWA had good qtr considering an extremly tough an competive market. They continue to make money where others can not. It's a shame that 2 threads have been hijacked. Please see a new thread "SWA/FO" to contine this rock fight!

I will say this too. You can go back and read my posts and you won't find a bad word about Southwest. In fact, I luv Southwest. Every SW pilot I've met has been a great guy or gal.

That being said:

SWA/FO: You don't come across very well on the boards. I'm sure you think that you are always being witty and all, but you more often than not come off as a smart-ass and jerk. A little humility would be a good thing for you. You do not project the kind of image that your employer must have seen at some point since they hired you.

I'm sure I'm guilty of it as well at least some (if not all) of the time, but I at least try to be cordial and humble on the boards. Perhaps you should give that a try. Just an opinion.

Congrats SW on the profitable quarter and history.

Yep, you need the flames coming your way junior.

For those of you paying attention, I was giving SWA/FO grief for bragging about his airline making money.

I've been around these boards a long time, and I've never seen anyone as boastful and gloating about his airline as SWA/FO.

My point is that continuous gloating about your success breeds not only contempt but outright hatred. Notice that in my response to SWA/FO I did nothing more than post some numbers from FedEx, only to be followed by posts referencing hull losses at FedEx.

Jealousy is a bitter pill to swallow.

I never said you guys cheated your way into the money or didn't deserve it. All I did was post some FedEx numbers.

Yet even this tangential challenge to your sensitive "King of the Hill" mentality elicits responses including such gems that we "need" the extra money to "replace the several airplanes we've put in the dirt."

Nice.

Is anyone feeling vulnerable these days?

If you want to reply with something intelligent, be my guest. But please no more of the "OMG U R bashing SWA U fag!!!!" You are wearing out the buttons on your cell phone.

For people who fly the "Greyhound Travelers" you SWA guys are being a bunch of deuches...and no I dont fly for Fedex

Hey DragQueen, 4 posts? Go back to the CFI, CFII or MEI board. You're not even a player, here.

See the real problem with this board. We have this................

Congrats SW on the profitable quarter and history.

Followed by this.....................

For people who fly the "Greyhound Travelers" you SWA guys are being a bunch of deuches

Then again, it is easier to spot the "real" pilot.

I'm sorry, but what!..."...said the right thing..." are you really that sensetive?
I don't know SW/FO but I think he is funny. So he posts his companies profits and rips people with sarcasm and wit...does it really matter. Not everyone wants to live in the safe little world you live in or should I say exist in. Have you ever been to a football game and participated as a rowdy fan? It's good for the soul. I don't want to live in the homogenous society wherein we all just get along splended as "flat-liners".

Like Marshall Mathers says: "I am offended by you being offended"...

BTW Falcon jet I believe I read on of the finest posts when you explained the SWA hedges. I would like to have said the very same thing. Great leadership for 30+ years gives you lattitude to do things like hedges.
