Yeah, Pacific Flyer had some guy several years back advertising for pilots, many popular types (go figure), and asking for a copy of "licenses" and medical. Fraudulent charges were brought for whatever nefarious activities he was involved in.

Changed mine.

Just a quick question. If you check the first box they still have your SSN on file correct. The sencond box they totally get rid of your SSN all together? Which box is the best one the check? I am thinking the second. Sorry for the stupid question.

Thanks and Fly Safe.

I checked the second, removed all use of the SSN...

I think the FAA may be assigning non SS cert. numbers automatically to all new pilot certificates. My last three students received new certificate numbers without specifically requesting them. In fact, one student who received his Private certificate two years ago (and instrument rating soon after) was already assigned a non SS cert. number, and he didn't request it either.

Kinda hoping it stays as my SS number for good, don't wanna memorize yet another number :-). I personally haven't had any problems with it (yet) and haven't heard of other pilots having identities stolen etc.. in this manner. Anyone know of any horror stories?

It only takes one to ruin it though. Why take the chances? It's only a number and if you don't give much instruction or once your done you won't need to right it as much. Why do you need to worry about memorizing your number anyways?

As a far as the . post I just wanted to move it back up to the top. It was getting pushed down to the bottom.
