The slogan the past few years in the airlines has been we can't raise prices because we can't give up market share. We are better off flying at a loss to keep our customers than raise prices and loose customers to other airlines. Well we are about to enter summer flying season, I've been hearing flights are oversold (for several days straight to some places) yet NWA is continuing to remove planes. Last I knew that meant less seats for the customers (who appearantly are abundant again). What happened to we can't give up market share? Did they decide it's ok to give market share as long as it's attacking it's own workforce and not looking to force a different airline out of business?

There you go again trying to make what Northwest does make sense. How many times do we need to tell you it'll will only make it hurt worse. Now get back to watching the RW game.

I hear ya dude... I was workin on a revision this morning and I noticed that we yanked ASE out of our airport directory... This was effective May 1... So yeah, who the h*ll knows what's going on...

Did we go into ASE during the summer months anyway?

Soon enough they have to reveal whats behind door #2. May 3rd=NWA is done voting, May 11=deadline for XJ (then hypothetically if a TA is reached, MEC has to approve then pass it on for Memrat) so voting would end for TA June 15ish. Or a strike happens and we liquidate.

I'm curious to see what our seniority list looks like, it seems that people are dropping like flys. I know a lot of my class has flown the coop and I don't blame them one bit. Out of the 146 on furlough, my guess is that less than half are still around.

Yup another of my classmates just left the waiting list to work for Airnet. By my count that leaves 3 of us that are holding out. That doesn't include the captains that have left.
I'm done hoping for a decision. For some reason both sides seem content to drag the negotiations out. It'd be nice if someone would make a decision. Good or bad... make a decision so I know if I should wait things out any more.

I am also waiting it out for either Mesaba or now possibly compass. Did either of you WMU guys get a call from compass. Did anyone ever confirm if those calls were legit.

No call. One of the union hotlines that came out when this happened asked for anyone who had been called to contact the union. A later hotline said no one had contacted the union about it. Some people said they weren't going to call b/c they were on probation.
What a circus. I'm still waiting for the bearded lady to make an appearance. Compass sounds like a sham.

I think it's going to be hilarious when they recall - they have NO idea how many FO's have bailed to Republic, Horizon and even 1 to Mesa. I don't think the SLT have a grasp on how much training just walked out the door!
There are quite a few guys either training for Republic, or are leaving for there, who haven't told anyone (ALPA or XJ) that they have left. It's going to be a real circus if they decide to recall!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm still waiting it out......going to get my ATP and 737 type with all this "free time." If the government wants to pay for my ATP and type rating, that's fine for me. Another furloughed XJ guy in my class is in Dallas right now getting his 737 type and ATP for free.....Imagine that, getting laid off, collecting unemployment, and getting a type rating for free. All while waiting to get recalled from Mesaba. Not a bad deal.

Yes, please say which state allows this. I know there has been a lot of confusion about which states will and which won't. This info could be helpful for all.

Thanks.

They could care less - It's all a tax write off to them. I don't think the SLT have a grasp on anything related to airlines.

Does anyone know corporate tax laws and if they can write off the entire cost of training or just part of it?

I'm not sure about Mesaba's ASA with Northwest but at Pinnacle training is a pass thru cost to Northwest. Training doesn't cost Pinnacle a dime. They actually make money on it.
