Just wondering if anyone at Skywest knows if they're hiring right now for attrition or they're going to grow this year.

I got a call today from Cassidy and would like some inside info if anyone can give it. I'm debating making a lateral move right now for them.

Any info...PM me.

thanks.

I've gone up 55 so far this year. There isn't much in the way of growth that has been announced but there are 32 RJ's on order that will either go to ASA or SkyWest.

Some attrition due to United furloughs going back and some due to people getting hired at Southwest, JetBlue, and CAL. Why are you thinking of making a lateral move?

I've been at my job a year. And after a year it looks like I'm going to be back down on reserve, upgrade will take forever. I'm hearing that TSA isn't getting any of that continental flying either so that makes things worse for us.

I'm a little concerned with Delta right now...Cassidy tells me it won't be a factor.

I heard the QOL is a lot better at SKYW though than it is at TSA.

What do you guys think.

The question of the century, which airline will prosper. You know dude, the only thing you can do is make the best decision for the time being because everything past today is totally up in the air. My opinion, there really isn't a whole lot of movement here due to growth. However, I would say that there is probably a better chance that we could experience growth than TSA. But, first year here is hard, some of the worst pay in the industry. I was only on reserve for a month my first year. Very tough position you are in. I mean, we could be in big trouble if the management doofs at Delta don't back down and the pilots stand up for themselves like I hope they do. On the other hand, we could end up with the Continental flying (by the way sorry to the express guys, I would rather that they get to keep it). I would bet in a couple of years, that you will be in a better position here than you would at TSA with that extra year. But, that is my opinion. Do whatever makes the most sense today, but don't listen to anyone that you have called that is telling you what will and won't happen as a result of Delta, that is 100% certain!!! Best of luck to you

don't worry about delta...the pilots will stand tall, management will sell comair to skywest, and POOF.....they have money, they get out of bankruptcy, you have a decent job at skywest and the world will be a happy place again..........:pimp:

Hey does anyone have anymore info on SkyWest and the current hiring? ANy idea of how many classes will be run over the summer and for what planes? There was a rumor on here saying that SkyWest is going to hire another 500 pilots this year. Is any of that true? Thanks, I am still waiting for a call with 175/1135.

I think a class of 10 CRJ FO's started last week and I think a class of 30 E-120 FO's starts Monday. So it sounds like 40 a month! x 8 months left in the year =320 I think they already had 60 newhires feb/march so around 400 this year? I would jump ship if you can live in base at SkyWest.

In what I can only assume is a good sign of things to come, one of our C.P.s just sent out the following email:

Flight Operations is currently seeking qualified First Officer candidates. The application process is found online at: www.skywest.com. Please bring me your letters of recommendation for qualified applicants.

Regional air giant SkyWest preps for more growth in '06

By Paul Beebe
The Salt Lake Tribune

ST. GEORGE - SkyWest Inc., which became the biggest regional airline last year, is looking at another year of growth that could increase its revenue by 50 percent, CEO Jerry Atkin said Tuesday.

The company will take delivery of six new 50-seat Bombardier jetliners and 24 additional 70-seat jets by the end of the year, bringing its fleet of jets and turboprops to 409, Atkin told investors at SkyWest's annual meeting.

SkyWest wants to expand the number of routes its regional carrier subsidiaries SkyWest Airlines and Atlantic Southeast Airlines operate for Delta Air Lines and United Airlines. And it is bidding on new business with Continental Airlines.

"We are a pretty big company in the airline industry today," Atkin said.

Airline analysts say SkyWest could rake in $3 billion in revenue and fly 30 million passengers this year. The company is one of the most profitable carriers in the airline industry.

SkyWest earned a $112.3 million profit on revenue of $2 billion last year. The company expects to report first-quarter results today. Last month, SkyWest said it expects net income to fall between $33.9 million and $37.8 million for the three months ending March 31.

SkyWest added 30 of Bombardier's 70-seat jets to its fleet last year.

They were put into service at the company's United Express operations, expanding SkyWest's position as the largest United Express operator flying for Chicago-based United.

With SkyWest's acquisition of ASA from Delta in September, SkyWest became the largest Delta Connection operator flying for the bankrupt airline. The $425 million deal included 153 regional aircraft that should help generate $1 billion in additional revenue, Atkin said.

Through agreements with Delta and United, SkyWest flies as Delta Connection and United Express.

The combined SkyWest-ASA fleet is flown by 3,800 pilots. Atkin said pilot numbers will grow if the company gets more routes from Delta and United or wins new business from another carrier. The two subsidiaries serve 218 airports in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Caribbean with 2,350 daily departures.

In other business, shareholders re-elected eight directors and accepted the resignation of Sidney Atkin, who has served on the board since 1973.

30 new planes? Most junior domiciles are Denver, CO Springs and ORD? Doesn't this seem really tempting? Why can't I stop using a question mark?

Something must be up. That article was dated today, so we know it's current. We assume the reporter was paying attention and is not distorting facts (I know -- that's a stretch). But the biggest clue to me is that I can't access the fleet plan (PDF file) this morning on the SkyWest Airlines website. Perhaps someone is busy copying and pasting in some more airplanes through the rest of the year. Up to now this year, for whatever reason, new aircraft have been showing up on the fleet plan unannounced. Then, after everyone knows more aircraft are coming, they have said "oh by the way, we're getting more." I'm curious as to whether any of these "70 seat aircraft" are going to feature 900-size cabins.

I start EMB class on Monday...how long to get SLC or DEN with the current hiring status?

SLC and DEN are the two longest waits in the Brasilia system now. The junior FO at DEN has been with the company since September and the junior FO at SLC has been here a year.

It is much more likely that your class will get assigned to SBP, SBA, FAT, LAX, and PSP.

See you next week.

Just remember that SkyWest Inc. has the airplanes on order -- not SkyWest Airlines. Many of these airplanes could wind up at ASA in Atlanta.

You got that right. SGU will put the airplanes where they want to. If you are looking at Skywest thinking that they are getting 30 airplanes don't be suprised if they don't show up. Likewise if you are looking at ASA because B.L. says airplanes are coming don't be suprised if they end up at Skywest. This is why we need one list now.

And according to what ASA "management" has been saying in the crew lounge, they will. According to them, the 50 seaters and the 705s are coming to ATL starting this summer.

Atkin only released that info to make the pilots on both properties go airplane crazy. They want a bidding war between Skywest Airlines and ASA over the new planes. That's why they announce what planes are coming, but don't say where. We need to be strong at both companies and tell management that we don't care where the planes go. A few years back, ASA management told our union that if we didn't take a pay freeze, we would miss out on new growth. The union told the company to pound sand, and we still got to planes. Meanwhile, more recently, Comair took a pay freeze in exchange for the promise of new growth, only to get hit up again for another cut, then bankrupted. Point is, we need to call management's bluff. And y'all need to get on board with the union so that we can help you instead of work against you.

Forget what I said earlier. The SkyWest fleet schedule is back up with no changes. May have just been a web glitch.

John, personally I think I'm better off at non-union SkyWest than you are at ALPA ASA. If you look at 70 pay in a vacuum, then of course I have to concede your point. However, if you look at the whole picture in the real world, (from what I have seen and heard, so I take it with a grain of salt), we're definitely better off.

The company will take delivery of six new 50-seat Bombardier jetliners

I thought Canadair shut down the CRJ200 line and would only be buliding 700's and up.

kind of funny the new fleet plan stops at JUN 06' the old fleet plan went to DEC 06'? Whats up?
