I heard that someone upgraded on the RJ in two years. That seemed a little fast from what I have heard on here is this true?

yes, I think it's 2 years and a couple months on the last award list for people going to ORD

People in my newhire class got the EMB upgrade in twenty months. Just got the RJ award at two years and four months...

I have two friends who were recently awarded upgrade in the jet in DEN. both were hired late fall of 2002.

I think Brasilia upgrade could be shorter.

They're not planning in EMB upgrade classes for a while since IAH is closing. I'd bet that RJ upgrade will go junior to EMB upgrade for a while at least. The problem is that the majority of the EMB flying is in California now and they havn't added an RJ line in CA in a couple years while DEN and ORD are growing like mad. Most of the CA EMB crowd seems unwilling to transfer to DEN or ORD. EMB upgrade could go junior fast if the company expands any of the CA RJ domiciles. Most of the RJ CA slots are being taken by RJ FOs.

Now thats weird to see the RJ upgrade faster then the EMB.Must be weird going from 30K to 60K.And how hard is it to go from an EMB FO to an RJ Captian. But in this crazy industry this could change at any minute.Atleast Skywest is doing good.

Weird? Well, maybe a little. But when you consider that the Brasilia is a dying (albeit very slowly) fleet, and the RJ side of the house is indeed growing like mad as sstearns said, it's not so weird.

Once you make it past first year pay, you start to realize that there's more to life than PIC. A lot of those Brasilia captains in California are very senior and very comfortable in life. Why would they give up Sunny California to go sit in the penalty box in Chicago? For many, it's just not worth it. Meanwhile, a line-holding RJ FO can make almost as much an EMB reserve captain. Quality of Life is important to a lot of folks. I think that's why you're seeing ORD go so incredibly junior. The senior people are smart enough (and have sufficient luxury to enable them) to stay the heck away from that place! ;)

Prop,
You got that right. I am just hoping my man gets on so he can be based in ORD and in a few years we can get the he!! out of this hole.

What do you think the upgrade would be for someone hired in the next few months would be? Will it stay around 2 years or go up 4-5? And do they plan on getting out of the E-120 business soon or 3-4 years? Thanks.

I wish I knew! The company has announced some Brasilia retirements, but they're on the order of like one or two per year. Certain powers-that-be want them gone yesterday, while others see a rosy future for them for the next 5 - 10 years. I can only speak for going from 1900 to Brasilia to RJ, but switching airplanes is pretty easy if you pay attention in class and do your homework.

Predicting upgrade is like smoke and mirrors. There's no way of figuring it out since things change all the time. I hope it stays at 2+ years though.

Looks like that last airplanes get delivered in july? What next what do you think Skywest has in-store for 06',07'. A new codshare? a aqusition? or are they taped out on growth? Something has to happen, or the days of the 2 year upgrade are gone.

How easy is it for new-hires to get based in ORD?

no one knows the answers to those questions. just the nature of this freaky industry.

attrition at SkyWest seems to be 8-12 a month. I moved up 29 numbers in two months recently due only to attrition, but how much longer that will last-who knows?

What company do you work at? I have been here for almost 3 years and I have only moved up 66 numbers...

I've heard other people say that, maybe there is another way of looking at it.

in newhire class, I had over 1800 people above me. now I have less than 1800 above me, or in other words, I've moved 26 spots closer to #1 on the seniority list. that doesn't count the 100+ that are now below me on the list.

Just depends on where the person leaving falls on the seniority list. I've moved up 79 numbers since newhire class(about a year). Just to compare, I have a friend was senior by 100 numbers or so when I got hired, but who is less than 90 senior now. So we've had people between us leave.

Edit: just realized what time it is...ugh...need a hobby

Yes, you do need a hobby, no doubt... :p

Like Deerkiller said, it depends on where you are on the seniority list.

If you are at about #200 seniority, you maybe only moved up 20 numbers on the list in the last three years.

If you are junior and a lot of junior folks (who happen to be somewhat senior to you) leave, you move up more.

Just because someone moves up 29 numbers in two months, doesn't necessarily mean that these twenty-nine come off the top of the list!

I've moved up about 15 numbers in six months at my new company, while those who have been here for 4.5 years maybe moved up one or two numbers.

Cheers!

Sorry folks, I guess I see what you are writing about. I was hired before all of the COEX and UAL hires. I understand that a lot of them have left to go back to COEX and other places, and they did not help my numbers, but they would help new hires. I guess I should have looked past my nose. But as far as attrition from the top, it is very SLOW. And yes, some jet upgrades are under two years right now.
