Does anyone know if Skywest will change their "no pay during training" policy after January 1, 2005?

Thanks

Peace

SF

I doubt it, why would management do anything proactively that would cost them more money, especially when labor is concerned. Once the SkyWest pilots get some union balls, they'll have a little power to right those idiotic practices.

The only way for them to change the policy is if people like yourself would refuse to show up for class because they don't pay you while in training. But why do that when someone is right behind you willing to do it if you don't. You might as well just keep on moving forward.

Skywest guys,

Did you guys get another home-made name tag for bags again on Christmas? I'm still waiting on mine.... was lost in comat. Hopefully you all got something a little better this year.

Merry Christmas,

Apply somewhere else

Apply somewhere that treats you better. Skywest isnt what it used to be. We as pilots need to take a stand and bring some dignity back to this industry.

ShadowFlight turned down the job because of no pay while in training.
I'm proud of you. I hope there are more people out there that are willing to say enough is enough. It realy is up to us as pilots to turn this industry around. The problem is getting every one on board.

It's not just the airlines

The answer? Probably a dictatorship. Seriously. Or at least hefty tariffs on cheap imported goods and a ban on outsourcing of (at least certain types) of jobs overseas.

As long as people in this country are "free," they'll do as they please, especially on the macro level. Herd mentality is very strong. As I've said before, it's not just airlines that are riding this downward spiral, or the "race to the bottom" as so many like to put it. Think about it the next time you go to Wal-Mart and buy something made in China that was once made with US labor many years ago. You can barely even find stuff made in Japan anymore. And now it's not just low-skill jobs that are being shipped overseas. High-tech jobs are going to India, too. I heard on the radio a couple weeks ago that some hospitals are sending MRI output electronically to India to be read by cheaper doctors there.

I believe in the free market, but I also believe you have to have parity. When jobs are being sent to countries where labor costs 1/10th what it does here, there is no parity whatsoever -- hence, the "race to the bottom."

Look around you. We're ALL selling each other down the river -- not just the airlines! Scary? Yes. Deflation is more dangerous to an economy than Inflation.

I think everyone at SkyWest got a free turkey this year.

Does anyone know when the next RJ class is being held? Interviewed and got a letter saying I was put into a pool for an RJ class. I got all the packets in the mail but wasnt sure how long I could expect to be in the pool. I was under the impression the pool was empty so im assuming not too long hopefully. Also what are the chances of getting SLC right out of training. Thanks for the info

Could be a little while. Lots of Brasilia FOs who have been seatlocked are being released for transition over the next several months. They'll get first dibs on any RJ class spots. If there aren't enough transitions to fill a class, then they'll draw from poolies.
