...Just wondering how they work. Some of my mil. buddies with reserve flying jobs say it's necessary sometimes to get your drills done. Is it allowed? Easy? How often can you do it without pissing off the company? Any info is appreciated.
 
You can drop trips by two ways at SkyWest. You can drop them into the swap board where other pilots can then pick them up. You can also request time off and if there are sufficient reserves it will be granted. The company doesn't care how much you drop but you can't go below around 62 hours per month because that's the minimum to pay for your medical insurance.
 
I'm not sure if there's a specific place in the policy manual about mil. duty, but I think the company is very supportive of those who have drill weekends... Flew with a guy last month who had to take two weeks off and said it was no big deal- even in a month we were short pilots...
