I guess now it is a bad thing that the pilots can somewhat trust the leaders at their company and don't need protection.

That union strong as the pilots allow is an old tired cliche. National should be the leaders. They get those big salaries right? Then its time for them to think of new methods or get out. Unions have used the same old tired arguments for years now. If a company fails management is blamed. Why isn't ALPA any different? The union has failed therefore you must blame the entire union management.

I agree with you 100%. The upper levels of ALPA is entirely over funded. But our local Reps work hard and if somone gets shafted by management its resolved quickly. As for the bigger issues, we have a strike fund,ie tons of cash to use if we need it. Thats the leverage we have. The power to use it is among us. Even some of our union reps believe the only good thing about ALPA is this fund.

I truly think however ALPA representing us at the regional level and the Majors at the same time is a major conflict of interest. They don't want us striking in front of UAL, USAIR, or NWA passengers. Because it hurts their bigger cash cow. I think it would be great for all of us at this level to create our own..if it were possible.
