Can anyone tell me the current number of pilots at Skywest?

I have heard they are going to add 300-400 pilots next year and I am trying to figure out how big of an expansion that will be.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Cool deal. Thanks for the help.

I am just tyring to figure out my options given my current situation. The company I am presently furloughed from is rumored to be expanding soon and I wanted to find out if we will be expanding more than Skywest (percentage wise) or not.

Of course, if the company that owns us goes under soon then it really doesn't matter.....:p

As I understand it, Skywest is still hiring, (well interviewing anyway). I think there was just a class but it was all poolies. Hopefully it will ramp up here in the very near future. Got my resume on file, just waitin' for the call. Good luck to all.

skywest is hiring now. i've seen all the guys in suits standing around looking nervous at the hanger. we're hiring for classes that start next year. i'm pretty sure that all the interviews are booked until the first of the year. good luck to everyone... -sr.

I've been in the pool for two months and was told that the next EMB-120 classes would start in the beginning and at the end of January.

This is what I have herd.
Those that are in the pool right now have been in for 2 months give or take a month at the most. They are still interviewing people. I do not know when they submitted there resume' or how long ago. I do know on the books they have a class of 30 newhires for the Brasilia on Jan. 2. Another class of 30 for Jan. 28th I think what ever that Wed. would be. The plan is to have at least 3 new jets coming on line each month all next year, with a some months taking up to 6 RJs. It depends allot on United and what they are going to give us for Shuttle routes in CA. I know AirWisky will be pulling there RJs out of CA when Canada can make ours. I hear AirWisky will be putting some RJs where the 328 is flying know.(I herd this from airwisky pilots out of Denver) Delta has on the books 20 RJs based out of DAL by Feb. 1 Some of the flights will be over flights that ASA and Comair fly. We think That ASA and Comair will over fly some of our routes but the reason is Delta whants protection from another strike. Delta know that SkyWest will not strike because we are not Union. Any ways 300-400 is a good number to count on for next year, 80% will be because of growth and the other 20% for atrition. I know 6 guys right now that are hired by SouthWest and are waiting a class date. Good luck coming to SkyWest, it is a great place to work. You cann't beat the destinations(Santa Barbra, San Diego, LAX, SAN Fran, Montrey, Portland, Seattle, Jackson Hole, Denver, Durango and of course St George UT) Great managment that treats us as fair as an airline can and still make money. Anyways its a great palce to work and when you get here for the interview you will know exactly what I mean.

KFFA,

Can you confirm or deny that the next two classes will definately be EMB-120 classes. That's the welcome aboard packet I'd received, but I still hope for the CL-65. Also, I understand the seat lock for the first year, but what are the requirements to transition aircraft? Flight time? Seniority? What about upgrade time and its requirements for the RJ or EMB?

Since they shut down the newhire BB, I've got no source for accurate info and you have good info. Nobody here in ATL knows much about SkyWest. Just want to pick your brain and satisfy my anxiety.

I have been in the pool since September. I had to turn the October class down due to 9/11 related military events. I have also heard from "inside sources" that the classes that are supposed to be in January are EMB classes as no new hires are being allowed into the RJ for the near future. (I was offered the RJ and accepted it...only to be told that I would have to wait at least 8 months now) I am assuming that I will be in the January 2 class, but I can't get the powers that be to return my emails about the class. Anyway, good luck to everyone in the pool. I hope to meet some of you in January (fingers crossed). Keep the info flowing on this board since it is our only source of info now that the newhire board is down.

So, it sounds like there are still a number of poolies. Is this true or are they just bearly ahead of the Ground Schools?

Also a poolie

Tanker,
I interviewed on Sept. 11th of all days. If that's after you did, you will be in the Jan 2nd class. I got confirmation through the higher ups and I am just going to make it according to my poolie number. Looking forward to it would be an understatement.

Anyone else in the pool let us know who and where you are and what number(if you know).

I interviewed on August 25th....nobobdy has gotten to me about the class. Who let you know??

The new hire classes will be both Brasilia. The RJ classes are pretty much full till spring with guys moving from Brasilia to RJ. Your upgrade time is 1000 hours. Date wise it would be a little tricky to say. For example. If you were to go to Denver (which there are 6 guys from this last class that will be done with sim by Jan 1st, they will hold a line right off) If you go to Santa Barbra then you will be on reserve for ever and would take you 10 years to get your time. The curve to this all is that we are some where down to 60 Brasilias in the system. 9/11 sped things up. The latest rumor is we will be all jet in about 6 years. About the time St George gets there longer runway to accomadate the RJ. The seat lock is for one year. But this is an odd company, because there are guys in PDX that will stay EMB till they are forced to go to RJ. Which could be 2 or three years. There are others that want the jet as soon as they get to ground school. So what I mean is you could get the Jet at your one year mark or it may be longer. Keep in mind all this info is subject to change. At SkyWest things are changing every moment.
PS know your limitations before you get to class.

Skywest Denver Base

I will be joining the 27 Mar class. Could anyone at SkyWest tell me if Denver is a junior base? What is the chance of a newhire getting it? Also, Will the Brasilias be there for a while or will they be replaced by CRJs?

Thanks.

I know a someone who was in the Oct 2001 class and got Denver. Apparently a line and not reserve. Who knows now with a couple of classes since oct

fredgalaxy,

The junior guy at DEN is near the bottom of the Oct 2001 class. We have had only one class since then. I do not anticipate this class getting any DEN domicile awards.

I don't know how long our Brasilias will be in DEN. They are now going to only 4 cities from there. DEN will be the focus of our expansion this year for CRJs. We are resuming the DEN-MSO route and will adding more in the coming months.

Thanks very much for the info, Andy. Do you have a feel for what domiciles are most likely to host the latest batch of newbies?

My crystal ball says:

FAT 18
PSP 3
MRY 3

The most likely error will be my exclusion of any SLC awards. Looking at the numbers around the system, I couldn't see any new guys being assigned there but I will likely have to take a big hit there.
