ditto the 21 questions thing...

ditto the SKW loss thing...

drunk/craping the pants....that is a whole nother bag of oranges
judgement? professionalism? Stress?

How would that individual have handled a 'stressful' day crossing
midwest t-storms and RON in Nashville? SKW terminated the risk
and potential 'image' problem.

Would you have CA'd or FO'd with a guy for the infamous pant-
crapping and wall painting with turds?

100-1/2

This post is WAY too long. Union or non-union... there are positives and negatives to both. I've been on the fence with this whole union thing for a long time. I've talked to both union and non-union pilots who have had good and bad things to say. Either way, we're both at the mercy of the mighty and greedy corporation! Anyway, if you fail the written test at Skywest... you need help. There are no "trick" questions on there. If you don't have the knowledge, you won't pass the test. A second chance? Come on! Did you get a second chance when you were taking finals in college? Oh, I'm sorry, let me hold your hand and take it over again. If you want to work here at Skywest, you need to get 80% on the tests. Mostly everybody I know (at least in my upgrade class) got 94%-100%. The test is by no means hard, IF you studied and have an understanding of the material. If he didn't understand the material, he should have gotten help from somebody. Give me a break!

Since they don't pay during training and thus not an employee...at least he doesn't have to claim he worked somewhere and failed a test. (he still has to justify a lapse in employment....but that doesn't seem to be too tuff these days)

I thought Skywest paid pilots during training--- if they do "failing" that test can be veeerrrry costly long term

NO PAY TILL IOE!!!!

I stand corrected-- Some one told me that skywest was paid during training-- they were wrong.

Regarding the guy who missed 21 questions. . .

Look. SkyWest, or any other airline out there needs to draw the line somewhere. This isn't highschool health class. We are all professionals, and at SkyWest we are aware of where the line is drawn.

I realize that it must be very painful to not contunue with the job over missing one too many questions. However we are all aware that this industry is unforgiving, and that mediocracy is unacceptable.

Especially if the rest of the class is getting between 94-100 setting the bar at 80% and being firm about it makes sense. The guy must have slept through class or not cracked a book after hours. You've got to show some sign of commitment in any airline ground school.

Much thread drift over this one example. I brought that story up as an example of where having a union might help, rather than hurt...sorry I don't have a better example but I don't have any other Skywest stories due to a lack of familiarity with the gossip there, other than this board.

Many on this thread have keyed in on that story and not the greater issue that was being debated...that of the intrinsic value of that 1.95% we pay every check and whether or not it is worth it.

The SkyWest pilots have voted on unionizing or not, and they voted it down. That should tell you something about what they think of their management, and whether they think that 1.95% is worth it.

Do you think you are ENTITLED to fly that route? REMEMBER, YOU ARE A SUBCONTACTOR FOR CO, HIRED TO DO A JOB FOR CO. CO can hire WHOMEVER they want to fly wherever they want. If COEX was its OWN airline, i'd say u got sumthin, but its not and u dont. live with it.

Hey JACKHOLE learn your history!!! It was our flying and did belong to Us because we WERE wholey owned by CAL. Meaning that all the work we did went twords the greater good of CAL. But then CAL sold us to fund the pension plan and put cash in their pockets. They threw us out, ruined our CONTRACTUAL RIGHT to job progression and advancements. So sorry if we're a little pi$$y when some skywest guys start with the "its not your flying speech"

IT WAS OUR FLYING AND WE HAVE GOTTEN SCREWED, Just like Eagle and CHQ, and Just like Comair/ASA and CHQ and just like PSA/ALLegany and CHQ/MESA...

See a trend here?

ALLRIGHTY... WHERE TO START...

IF I REMEMBER MY HISTORY CORRECTLY, COEX STARTED AS A LITTLE AIRLINE CALLED BRITT AIRWAYS. CORRECT? SO THEREFORE, CO CHOSE TO USE BRITT AS THEIR FEEDER JUST LIKE THEY CHOSE TO PURCHASE THE FEEDERS AND MERGE THEM INTO ONE ENTINITY. CORRECT?

LET ME GUESS, YOU PROLLY WEREN'T AROUND BACK IN THOSE DAYS, YA KNOW, WHEN 135 COMPANIES OPERATED? REMEMBER?

AND YES I DO SEE A TREND. YOU ARE NOTHING BUT A LITTLE PIECE OF S#^$ WHO IS UPSET CAUSE YOU SOLD YOUR SOUL TO CO FOR ALL THAT FANCY ASS JET FLYING. I WILL PUT DOWN MONEY THAT YOU WERE BUSTED DOWN FROM CA TO FO CAUSE SOME BASTARD CO MAINLINE PILOT TOOK YOUR SEAT AWAY FROM YOU.

HERE ARE THE FACTS:

-CO CAN PAY ANYBODY TO FLY FOR THEM, ANYTIME, ANYPLACE
-CO HAS THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE, CAUSE THIS IS A FREE COUNTRY, AND GORDIE IS EXCERISING HIS GOD GIVEN RIGHT AS AN AMERICAN TO CHOOSE WHO HE WANTS, WHERE HE WANTS.

NOW GET BACK IN YER TACO JET AND GET YER ASS OVER TO BAKERSFIELD, CAUSE THE RADIO NEEDS TO BE CHANGED AND THE GEAR HAS GOTTA COME UP. SO DO YOUR **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** JOB AND STOP COMPLAINING!

OHH, AND PS, IT WAS NOT YOUR FLYING, YOU WERE AWARDED IT, BY UNCLE GORDIE, SO BE HAPPY YOU GOT TO SPEND ALL THOSE NIGHTS AT THE MOTEL 6 IN MONROE WHILE GORDIE WAS SITTING AT HOME WIPING HIS ASS WITH ALL THE MONEY HE MADE OFF OF YOUR BACK.

GOOD DAY SIR!

AND TELL YER MOM TO KEEP THE CHANGE

Um yup you got it there smarty! Actually I am almost in the top 10% of the seniority list. So Although I may have gotten a few months of below average lines I actually made out just fine.

And to correct your history.......JACKA$$ COEX came from a combination of 3 airlines that were bought by the texas air corp. Bar Harbor(which included PBA), Britt and Rockey Mountain. Gordo had nothing to do with it. We were OWNED by and WORKED for Continental Airlines.

So excuse me if we get a little defensive when scumbag A$$MONKEYS like you talk all day long about how the flying doesn't belong to us. The pilots of XJT have suffered irrepearable damage to their carreers due to the sell off, and now some scum bag like you wants to rub it in our face that "it isn't your flying"

FUKC OFF DOUCHE

Priceless, whenever a valid point is made the only thing that can be pointed out is something by the spelling police! Classic.
