"Hey "general" your an idiot. Why dont you take all of your insight into the inner workings of corporations and find a new job."

Anyone else see a problem with that first sentence?

tjmoser,

No, you are the idiot. Your airline had been advertised with Cat 2 ability, and that is supposedly needed this time of year in Salt Lake. Well, now your CRJs are having autopilot disconnect problems, and that is bad news for everyone---including Delta. Safety is important, but so is getting what is advertised. I hope you guys get the problems fixed, because otherwise we may have to begin flying 737s flying back into Montana during the winter and foggy months. (Better reliability) Let's hope you get it fixed.

Thanks for adding YOUR insight to the conversation.

Thanks flyjumpseat. I hope your autopilot problem is fixed soon. I am sure many people are looking into it.

I'm not sure what you're pokin' at here, General. As near as I can tell, this is a FLEET WIDE CRJ issue, not just a SkyWest issue. I don't know if we're the only company using the CRJ in CAT II or not, but I imagine that other companies would do the same thing SkyWest has done, which was to issue a Fleet Campaign Directive downgrading the affected aircraft from CAT II status.

In the past I've always been impressed with your pragmatic-ism (you know what I mean), but here it appears that you're knocking an airline for taking action regarding a rather important safety-related issue.

I know your answer to this question, but I'll ask it anyway. Would you rather have a planeload of people end up at the bottom of a smoking hole instead?

Sometimes it's the smallest link that's broken in the chain of events that leads to a wreck.

Hey General,

The autopilot problem is not a SkyWest problem, it's a Collins problem. If the 737 had a problem tomorrow that affected it's performance in the weather it wouldn't be a Delta problem would it? SkyWest has the best maintained CRJs in the industry. And no this problem will not be fixed soon. After talking with the mechanics I think the spring flowers will be in bloom before it is completely fixed. Yes it stinks, but that is the way it is. Blame Collins, not SkyWest. By the way, all my flights ran on time today. Even with the fog. As disappointing as it might be for you, this isn't the end of SkyWest. Skywest was flying CRJ's for Delta before they had CAT 2 capablity. If this problem had happened in April, you wouldn't have heard squat about it.

The General just can't pass up a chance to take a cheap shot at a Delta Connection. Comair is his favorite target, but anyone will do.

When I first noticed him on this board he was concerned about the furloughees, and I thought, WOW, that's admirable. Now he just seems like he's got a chip on his shoulder, pathetic, really.

May be a nice guy, but he sure doesn't come across that way.

I don't notice the chip. I think he asks a lot of legitimate questions - but I'll admit he does seem to get a bit defensive when he is attacked on these boards (basically every day). I don't think he provokes it but I could be wrong. He seems to have some insightful comments and opinions every once and awhile...

Clearly Skywest not having this Cat II ability, regardless if it is a CRJ problem in general or not, will have a detrimental impact on Skywest and Delta results if it is not cleared up soon. Sounds like ASA will have problems too without some near-term training. Any idea when Skywest could have a fix in place?

SSDD,

I am a swell guy, just ask the myriad of friends I have on this board---like Xremeflyr, Surplus1, Fins, Medflyer, ATRdrvr, Tim47sip, RJCAP, and plenty of others. I do like to "jab" at people sometimes, but I really just wanted to know what the deal was with this servo problem. I actually know one of the passengers that was stuck in SLC on Saturday---my cousin. She called me up wondering what the problem was with her Skywest connection. That is why I started asking questions. I know ASA and Comair aren't Cat 2 qualified right now, but it can be frustrating to know that Skywest was, and now isn't because of the servo problem. Of course I don't want a burning plane smashed at the approach end of some runway, but I thought I would see what everyone thought and how long it may take to fix the problem.

As far as the furloughs, I am still dedicated to their swift return.

I was told by one of our mechanics that very few or our aircraft would actually be affected. The problem was trying to identify the servos, mounts, etc.

I actually had one of our autopilots not disengage, it would really be bad if it happened at approx. 80 feet above the ground.

General,

I enjoy your posts, but you did take a "jab" at SkyWest, I thought you liked us? I know you are worried about the cash going into Delta's checking account, but dude, is it really our fault? Anyway, we are doing the best we can, especially under some difficult circumstances. Hope your cousin made it home, etc.

ASA does have CAT II capability on the ATR's, at least those that aren't deferred. Hope they don't suddenly find the need to send up out there.

BID,

I like the pilots at all of the DCI partner airlines. The only people I dislike are some of the MEC members at Comair and Dan Ford and his RJDC group, but that is well known. I would not treat anyone poorly on the jumpseat, and I was really just a little miffed at my cousin's situation. Yes, she did get out Sun afternoon. I wouldn't want anyone to try to shoot an approach below minimums just so they could keep a good on-time average. I understand krap happens. But, I am sure there are some people in management that aren't pleased with the situation, and hopefully the problem will be solved. That's it.

ATRDriver,

Nice avatar!!!!

From and another SkyWest thread and reliable source;

"I can say that we should see about 49 aircraft back to Cat II status soon, and the others will follow at a later date to be determined."

Fly Safe.

A lot so quick to blame...--

Let's get real here fellows! Don't blame Skywest for the problem, It's a Collins problem. Skywest has some of the best MX in the biz, and I'm sure they are on top of it.

You guys are squabbling over ASA and Comair getting trained for CAT II, but remember they have the same CRJs, complete with the same servos. So what would be the use of training them at this point.

As far as COEX goes, the ONLY reason they are shooting CAT II right now is because they have ERJs. If they had CRJs, they would be in the same boat.

I do remember a problem with 737s and the rudders ( I recall a runaway problem), was that a USAIR/airline problem? or was it a Boeing problem.

Geez, so many so quick to point the finger, why don't we just sit back and think. Skywest was one of the only CAT II ops on the CRJ, and yes they advertise it, but there is nothing that they can do but comply with the safety directive. And don't you think UAL is affected as well?

Mrs. Lee,

Take some Midol and try to recover from your PMS! During my 15.75 hour duty day yesterday in and out of SLC, fighting to hear "1800 RVR" on all hand flown approaches I sure as hell missed the AP! I know several SkyWest RJ's went missed and came back around and got in, which took a lot of concentration and patience considering the situation. While I was holding short of 34R I saw the BIG D go missed on a CATIIB and divert! My point being it wouldn't matter if we were flying 737's or RJ's we'll never be seen as equals by you or all your faggot squadron buddies, and I could care less. We'll get our little under-powered RJ's fixed eventually and continue to fly CATII approaches in and out of SLC on time as usual so your customers can make their connections on flights that never seem to leave on time...what does the BIG D stand for anyway? Delay? or just Dick? Please feel free to correct my grammar, I love learing from the "General Lee" who most likely will be teaching school in the near future when the BIG D takes the D in the rear. Watch your six dick. JP

Jopilot,(gangsta pilot)

Man alive, you are a testy dork. Wow, you were flying around doing what? Who cares? Wa wa wa. Oh yeah, a Delta flight went missed, but every 738 and 757 probably made it. That autoland deal is awesome.(and hud for the 738---allows you to hand fly Cat 3s)

So, you know that Delta won't be around? Tell that to all of our execs that just got huge option grants---they all will be rich if they don't screw up. They also just secured financing and things are looking a lot better now. Thanks for caring. How will Skywest do if your other big partner fails? Oh, you will take over with Airbus planes, I am sure. Atleast they have autoland capability.

I am glad you had a great workout flying yesterday, it is good for you. We've all had rough days, I had a long delay in LGA for deicing a couple days ago, but you don't hear me crying.

And, if you want to come jump to Atlanta with me and my ex-E120 squadron buddies, you are welcome anytime. Enjoy the movie, it's on us.

Unfortunately (or fortunately if you're management), they'll be rich even if they do screw up. All I know is we're on the wrong side of the table...

No shiznet!

Nice avatar. Dork! I've been on this board for years. So, are you saying that being on this board makes you a dork? Well then, I guess you are one too. Enjoy Woody!

Bye Bye--General Lee

Mrs. Lee, judging from your register date you might consider 27 months to qualify as "years" but jesus 3784 posts over 27 months = 4.6 posts a day! I would have to say you have very little life. As for my Avatar at least I have enough personality to have one, I guess you couldn't decide on just one boy band member for yours? I think you just might have me out dorked. JP

And I thought 3 5 0 was a dork!

This post was in reference to 3 5 0 Driver a few months back.

Let's do some math. This person has averaged just under 3 posts a DAY for the past 2.5+ years. Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking combined haven't had as many bright ideas as this guy thinks he has...

Not good company to be in.

None of the Montana cities are CAT II airports.

Hey Morning Wood,

That is a good point.

It's funny how these threads always take a curve. Now it's sort of Delta Connection vs. Delta. "Hey, you guys better get your act together, or Delta will make you pay"

I do not believe the General thought out his post. Instead he was more interested in a little flame throwing at SkyWest, and Delta Connection. If his post was on a serious note, then the General is not as bright as me thought.

At this point in time, I do not fear Delta's management will increase the number of 737's flying in Montana.(For the sole purpose of better reliability, of course). On behalf of all the powers of the universe, I sincerely apologize for advertising CAT II, and not having it.

I hate to rag on you General, but I take a lot of pride working for this company, and you just touched a nerve. No politics and always welcome on board.

General.. ClearRight's above explaination is correct. Our whole fleet is NOT affected, unfortunatly it DOES include most of our planes. If we happen to have an airplane that hasn't been downgraded, we are still authorized for Cat II approaches. You can bet MX will be replacing parts and recertifying aircraft ASAP. Won't be a long term thing!

joel

As a side note...it is possible to have lower mins at a CAT I airport with a HUD equiped aircraft....improved CAT I if you will.

This thread has taken a nasty turn...can't we all just be friends:O

Dam! I was out-foxed. The General was out-foxed. I admit it, I didn't think of that. But, it would be nice if those flights could take off out of Montana and actually get into SLC where there is a Cat 2 approach (or Cat 3 on 34R---right?) Could that have been some of the delay last Saturday with my cousin? Was it all because of Montana being socked in, or were there other problems with Salt Lake? I thought it was due to Salt Lake being fogged in? If so, could your Cat 2 ability helped the situation? Regardless, the loss of Cat 2 hasn't helped the situation, and our 737s FROM MONTANA could have attempted at least a Cat2 in Salt Lake. See my point? Hey, I don't want anyone hurt here---I was just wondering about the Cat 2 reliability and why it was gone.

Jopilot,

I admit I post quite a bit on Flightinfo, and I enjoy the board and actually contribute $$$$ towards it. When I am not flying and I need my airline info fix, I go to Flightinfo and some other boards. I am glad that you figured out how many months I have spent on here. If you want an autographed picture (in a provacative pose no doubt), PM me and I will send you one. (normally $20 each, but you will get one for free, and maybe along with my new book "The General, it's tough being perfect.....")
