Actually that award is determined when regional CEOs gather around a table late at night, drink scotch, smoke cigars, and play poker to determine the winner.

It's not saying much on the regional level when Silver Airways wins.

SkyWest

SkyWest is the carrier to which regional manufacturers must prove themselves, that major airlines look to first to deliver what they need, and that passengers know will deliver a safe, reliable product.

So it was no surprise that an order from SkyWest for 100 E-175-E2 aircraft plus another 100 purchase rights launched Embraer’s next-generation E-Jet at the Paris Air Show last year. And at the 2012 Farnborough Airshow, Mitsubishi Aircraft Corp. executives looked delighted as they told a packed room of reporters that SkyWest had agreed to buy 100 MRJs. Mitsubishi called the order a “milestone” for the program.

The entire worldwide regional airline industry greatly benefits from SkyWest’s high standards, making SkyWest an excellent recipient of the ATW Regional Airline of the Year Award.

And here is when Silver won:
The Fort Lauderdale-based carrier is being honored in recognition of its outstanding growth and achievements, as well as its contributions toward elevating the overall regional aviation industry. Notably, Silver Airways is the first U.S.-based airline to win the coveted ATW Regional Airline of the Year award since 2008.

And here is how awards are picked:
Originally launched in 1974, ATW awards are determined solely by the editors of Air Transport World (ATW) based on submissions made by airlines based all over the world.

So I guess the editors forgot about good ol Gulfstream pretty quickly. It's always nice to win an award but ATW as regional airline of the year is like winning an award from Airliners.net. Have you seen the last winners?

Return

You know it's prestigious when no one is selected in favor of a "20 Years Issue", unless that's the most unfortunate airline name in history.

Ah, 1986. Back when a company had 3 schedulers, 5 dispatchers, and 4 spare parts.

Wait a minute...

135 in 1986 for Skywest meant no dispatchers, was ASA 121 back then?

Oh, is that right? You might want to tell SkyWest's most senior dispatcher, 31.5 years of service, that he did an imaginary job back in 1986 then.
