Can anyone with Skywest tell me the seniority required to hold LAX Capt. on the Bro? Also, what is the latest as far as seat and A/C locks, could an FO on the RJ be awarded a CA slot on the BRO in the first year?
Thanks in advance.

To the second part..yes.

Not an employee... yet. I am on business day six of "five to ten business days." At the interview they said there is a 12-month seat lock, but no domicile locks. The written rule is that the seat locks are effective after your first year. In other words, if you qualify for an upgrade or transition within your first year they will not hold you back. The other exception would be if it would benefits the company (hmm no brainer).

When doing IAH flying, we had a Capt that was online as an FO for 1 month.
Timing is everything!

Sounds like a great idea!! You will need lots of hope that nothing goes wrong!!

Darwin at work. Too bad the PAX are dragged along for this natural selection

We had at least 3 Brasilia captains who upgraded after only being on the line for a month. What was not mentioned is that all three were former SkyWest pilots, who had gone to the majors and had gotten furloughed. At least 2 were former captains, with one of them being a checkairman.

That Jr. captain was furloughed off the 767 at United and was a Bro captain before he left for United...but he was pretty scary to fly with....;)

B-Dawg...surprised I havn't seen you seat subbing this week...

I only knew of one really scary IAH Bro captain and he came from PSA.

I'm starting 4 days of reserve today, so it's possible that they could call me to seat sub. Those were long days in the 'ole hydraulic beast, but at least I was home every night.

It was good to see you on Wednesday. We're going to have to fire up the grill a lot this summer.

Anyone able to look up the seniority number for EMB CA at LAX?

Junior CA is 9/05. HOWEVER: LAX is a reserve-only base, and there are only three CA's assigned. With so few, it's a total crapshoot as to when a slot might open up...if those three stay 15 years, then you would have to wait 15 years...

The guy I think you're talking about was, at the time of the award, at the very bottom of the SkyWest seniority list (the one that was available at the time of the award, June 2003). He was a United furloughee who "resigned" his seniority number and was trained on the CRJ. He was hired in March '03 and was in upgrade class August '03. I don't think that he was a former Brasilia captain. If I remember correctly he came from ASA (then United, then SkyWest). Great guy. Very intelligent and one of the younger pilots on the United seniority list.

Thanks Rickair, so if a slot did open up and you were assigned LAX, what would happen if someone senior to you then put in a bid for it? Would you then be reassigned or would someone have to leave first?

Once you are in an aircraft, seat, or domicile you cannot be displaced just because a senior pilot wants that slot. However, when a slot opens up asenior pilot can get into your domicile and he will then be senior to you in-domicile and will bid ahead of you.

The only exception is in the event of a base downsizing...normally those pilots displaced from their own domicile can then displace ANY pilot junior to them anywhere in the system. This starts a chain-reaction with many pilots throughout the system displacing other pilots, with the junior-most pilots getting displaced OUT of the system (ie furloughed).

Thanks for the quick response Rickair, one more question if you're still online. Any idea what the lines look like for the LAX Reserve base? I heard you get 10 days off a month (11 if it's a 31 day mo). Do the reserve lines usually have consecutive days off? Could you request certain days off or trade days off to get four of five days off in a row?

No, NO and NO!

Usually 2 off after 5 on.
These lines aren't very flexible.
Welcome to Reserve!

Speaking of which, can someone tell me why the f*** Bro guys jump around bases like it's going out of style? Why can't people just sit their a$$ still in one base for the love of Jesus?

People do it all over the place, even in the jet. You put in a bid thinking that your not going to get an award for a while and all of a sudden you get the domicile and are sitting pretty jr. and get reserve or a crappy line. If you turn down the award your locked into your present domicile. So, people take the award for a crappy month and go somewhere else or back until they move up the food chain.

Maybe someone wants to get closer to where they live for an easier commute. Maybe someone wants to experience different types of flying. Maybe someone just feels like it.....

All reserve, which means you will fly a lot right now due to growth and attrition. Also, expect deadheads to far-away places (a few round trips to ORD each month will sure get your credit up).

10 days off each month, but the months are adjusted to get as close to thirty days as possible (ie "FEB" this year actually ran from JAN31 to MAR01).

Your days off will be in blocks of 2 or 3. I doubt you could trade much, cuz there are so few reserve pilots to trade with.

Your QOL would almost certainly be better with a line somewhere else, and 14-18 days off. You could always try it and see...

capt. megadeth,

This is a serious question, why do (did) you care?

Respectfully,

Lilah

Because my fiancee works there and gets a line every other month. Just when we think he will be getting a line indefinitely, 3 dudes senior to him come into base and he drops down just enough to get reserve. I know it's people's right to do that, but from our perspective, it's annoying. We thought about moving bases too figuring he may have a better chance to hold a line somewhere else but it seems to us that it's better to just sit still than chase a base to get a line. It seems to me like a lot of people are changing bases thinking the same thing...that they will get a better line somewhere else. It seems to me though, if everyone just sat their a$$ still, everyone would be better off.

You've been in this industry how long? Don't you know this is what happens when someone takes the first available upgrade! You want some QOL and PIC time, good luck, and you're the first one to bash people when they hold out for QOL. HA

By the way he's in FAT isn't he? And been here around a year? There are another 6-12 guys senior to him ready to transfer in as soon as positions open up.

Nice try....there are only 2-3. Well the bids came out today and he will get a line next month so......HA!

What do you care where he is and how long he has been here? What I say on here has nothing to do with what his views are. Just for your information, he thought what I said on the other thread was out of line. I caught a bunch of $hit from him for it too so don't assume my opinions are his, k?
