Why would the SKYW base grow? Cause Delta wants the 900's in ATL. CVG will grow when the CHQ135's are swapped out for RW175's. You heard it here first...discuss.

I'm just curious what might make you think the Skyw pilots can do anything about this?

They can't do anything about it. BUT, They don't have to bid ATL. They don't have bid the -900. They'll get junior-manned, but at least it would be a statement.

You're kidding, right? No matter how much somebody avoids flying the 900, somebody will end up flying it. They may be junior, but that doesn't give you guys the right to give us a hard time when we get to ATL. I've been here almost seven years. I didn't get the choice of, "Hmmm... I don't want to peave off the ASA pilots, so maybe I'll go work somewhere else." WE DON'T HAVE A CHOICE!!! Just like you guys don't have a choice where you fly. Really, I'm going to bid avoid flying to ATL because of the welcoming committee... I could care less what equipment I'm flying at this point. If I get junior-manned to ATL, should I where a little pin that says, "Don't be mean to me. I got junior manned." Would that help?

Trojan and Enuff:

We can't really do anything. The NMB has to authorize any job action. In the mean time we are professional pilots.

~~~^~~~
That's the main problem of our current negotiations! Until our pilots stop being a bunch of pansies, we will get the same treatment at the negotiating table for the foreseeable future. My respect for this pilot group is diminishing by the day due to this lack of action. If you are not in the Chief Pilot's office at least once a week, then you are part of the problem! And don't give me any of this "professional" crap; we are way past that. If you treated your employees this way, what would you as a business owner expect from them? Ask yourself that question!
I kind of doubt the ASA guys are being mean to your people in ATL since you park on an entirely different concourse than we do. I have yet to see one single SKW crewmember in the Atlanta airport.
SKYW Pilot,
Don't mind our vocal minority. The fact is, the majority of ASA pilots understand this isn't your fault. Next time one of these chest thumping ALPA die hards gives you a hard time, ask them why ASA is taking CMR airplanes for A SECOND time now. The first time was during the CMR strike.
ALPA has failed at preventing portfolio whipsaw, and some of the ALPA cheerleaders are looking for a scapegoat.
Welcome to ATL...... you parking spot is occupied.......
So you're in the CPs office at least once a week? What for? You like looking at Connaly's suspenders that much? Man, thats weird.
As I have said for some time now, if you are waiting for a 1998 style campaign, you will be disappointed. Most of the real die hards are leaving for the door, and the pilots taking their place don't care what you or I have to say, they don't care about ALPA or the RJDC, and they aren't about to put their job on the line for anyone. They are just putting in their time so they can go to Delta... they won't be here very long, and this job is better than their last job... if they even had a job before this one.
What's ALPA's Plan B? They do have one, don't they?
Your kidding right? Are ASA pilots refusing to bid the 700 since we are taking them from CMR - second time we have taken airplanes from CMR by the way...
The problem I have with Skywest pilots is their lack of understanding why they actually enjoy the work rules and treatment at Skywest.
Not once in the 35 yrs of Skywest has there been a negotiated contract on the property! Everything that you have had and currently enjoy is from the hard work and negotiating from other airlines (whether ALPA or Temsters etc)
Skywest management continues to offer just enough to keep 50.1% of you happy to avoid a union.
I know along with the silent majority and vocal minority that pilots EVERYWHERE have zero say in where they fly their companies airplanes. What the ASA pilots are proud of is their lack of bending to attract new flying. We have not taken any kinds of cuts or back deal agreements to gain new flying or take others flying.
Yeah, hope all of your Skywst peeps are paying attention because the kool aid bowl is about EMPTY!! We have all screwed ourselves by not merging lists!
Why didn't ASA and Comair merge when both were owned by Delta after all the years together?
If there is a correct answer then let me know.[/quote]
Good question Nightrain. There were actually pushes for single lists with ASA/CMR/DAL and then ASA/CMR. ALPA couldn't deliver. I actually believe our chances for a single list are probably better WITHOUT ALPA.
Eric - A wag of the finger is deserved when one group secures an airplane from another group as a result of concessionary pay rates.
A tip of the hat is deserved when pilots are offered airplanes in exchange for concessions and choose to maintain the standards of their profession at their personal cost.
A tip of the hat goes out to the ALG,PDT,Mesaba,CMR,ACA,Air Wisc. and CCAir groups.... does that tip of the hat pay the bills or provide health insurance? Seems "a wag of the finger" pays better..... I'll save my "wag of the finger" for ALPA....
FYI - announced to the Training Dept - growth at ASA is over. Only hiring for attrition the rest of the year and training numbers being reduced.
Is this really any surprise to anyone? The hardline ALPA chest thumpers will say something to the effect of "this was always the plan", or "pilots don't make these decisions", or my personal favorite "this is just a threat".
I respect Jerry - at least he follows through on his threats.....
not really news fins. we have nothing left but 2 more comair 700s then we train only for attrition. but since the attrition numbers are running 30 a month thats still a lot of training, and with many of the current ip's fixin to head out the department will hire. the atr's are staying for a while longer and they havnt announced any more 700s leaving lately. so at least for this year asa is not shrinking. skywest has too much of their own training for the rest of this year to take any of ours - next year is anyones guess.
the scary thing this week was delta announcing that regional flying is going to remain as is until 2010. the only change will be 40/50 seaters being swapped for 700/900 frames. granted, they have said that before but they are coming out of br with a while lotta cash and will buy 100 seat planes soon. those a/c will bump us from some cities but push us into new ones.
what that means to me is having the highest 700 rate isnt going to win us any flying and our 50s may eventually be traded away. asa management is not going to trade away asa's future so our pilots can be outbid by every single 700/900 operator in the market. we can be as mad as we want about it but it is what it is.
our hope imho is that alpa sees this and quits pushing for an even higher rate than what the company has offered, which is already a slight increase. push for the better 50 rates and take the 700 pay and get this done.
CRJ Skipper - thanks and I agree with you whole heartedly.
They will be lucky to keep up with attrition. That means shrinking. Happens naturally and SW wins. They don't need to actively reduce then.
